Yan Diomande has been linked with a move to Manchester United since before the January transfer window.
Manchester United appear to be hungry to further their attacking reinforcement this summer, after prioritising the position in the last summer transfer window, with Rúben Amorim at the helm.
Matheus Cunha and Byran Mbeumo joined to bolster the two No.10 positions behind the centre-forward in Amorim's formation, while Benjamin Šeško later joined as another option through the middle, with Rasmus Hojlund moved out the door.
Some have called for Marcus Rashford to return to the club, but he seems destined to sign permanently for Barcelona after an impressive loan spell in Catalonia, although the final decision has yet to be made.
Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu have impressed on the left flank, but neither are natural left-winger, and with United set to return to the Champions League next season, more options cannot be a bad thing.
United's stance on Diomande
Manchester United have been linked with RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande for almost 12 months now, but haven't come close to making a move just yet, despite interest in the January transfer window.
Director of Football Jason Wilcox was pushing hard to sign Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth, but he was beaten out by Manchester City, his former club. He then turned his attention to Yan Diomande, but never seemed to make a formal approach.
"In January, Man United were interested [in Diomande]. They wanted, you probably remember, Antoine Semenyo, then he decided to go to Man City," Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel.
"And for Man United, Diomande was already on the shortlist, and he remains a player appreciated."
But United's choice not to make a move in January may have cost them the chance to sign Diomande this summer, with other European clubs also interested in the Frenchman.
"Paris and German and Bayern [Munich] are both really attentive to the situation of the winger, Yan Diomande, from Red Bull Leipzig. So, these two clubs are for sure following and monitoring the player," he said.
"And don't forget Tottenham were working on the boy in January, but it was not possible to make it happen."
Will RB Leipzig sell Diomande?
Despite strong interest in Diomande from across Europe, it seems RB Leipzig does not want to sell their star Frenchman, who has 11 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances this season.
Romano continued: "RB Leipzig have proposed to Yan Diomande to stay at least for one more season, sign a new contract and improve the salary."
This could see Diomande off the market this summer and force United to look at alternative options for the left-hand side.
Perhaps they may be forced to trust Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha to balance the responsibilities, but that will mean a new left-back will be needed to compete with Luke Shaw.
Harry Amass will be after that spot, but he has been out injured since the end of the January transfer window.
