Barcelona wavers on Marcus Rashford's future, opening the door for PSG's £43.7m swoop amidst financial and form concerns about the Manchester United winger.

Why Marcus Rashford IS a Man Utd GREAT!

Marcus Rashford's last two years connected to Manchester United have been far from what many would have hoped, considering the brilliant career he had in Red.

The English winger rose through the ranks at the Carrington Academy in the early 2010s, making his debut for United in 2017 by scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, followed by a brace against Arsenal three days later.

Rashford would go on to make 426 appearances for the Reds and score 138 goals while collecting a further 79 assists, marking himself as one of the club's most successful academy stories in decades.

However, after falling out with Rúben Amorim amid disciplinary issues, he was loaned to Aston Villa for six months in January 2025, then joined Barcelona later that year on a one-year loan deal.

Rashford's Barcelona future now uncertain

As part of Barcelona's one-year loan agreement for Rashford, the player himself took a 20% wage cut to join the Catalan club, while the side also agreed with United a £26 million option to buy the forward in the summer, active until 15 June.

While reports earlier this year stated that Rashford's move to Barcelona was now considered more of a formality than anything else, as an agreement on a longer contract was already in place with the winger, this could be in doubt.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Rashford's future at Barcelona is now uncertain. The report states that the agreement in place for Rashford's longer-term contract does not line up with their wage structure for new signings.

Therefore, the sporting directors at Barcelona have started exploring the transfer market for other left-wing options that may be more financially viable. Also, Rashford's supposed decline in form of late has forced the club to reconsider their options.

United could sell Rashford for further £17.7m

While Barcelona's supposed change of mindset could be seen as an initial blow to United, who were said to be confident that the £26 million move would go through, the club could instead benefit from a rethink.

According to previous reports, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain have also been monitoring Rashford's situation at Barcelona, with a few to intervene if his move to Barcelona does not become permanent.

PSG's interest in Rashford has been a badly kept secret for a long time. Since 2022, they have kept in touch with the winger's representatives. According to previous reports from Spain, they've already set aside £43.7 million for Rashford if needed.

A figure such as this would see United earn as much as £17.7 million more than initially expected for the player this summer.
