Frustrated by a lack of minutes, Altay Bayindir signals a potential Old Trafford exit as Manchester United weighs a goalkeeper overhaul to find a reliable secondary option.
Senne Lammens has established himself as Manchester United's no.1 having enjoyed an excellent debut season in England.
The Belgian goalkeeper joined United on deadline day in the summer from Royal Antwerp for a fee in the region of £20 million, and he has proved to be one of United's best signings in recent years.
While Lammens has been excellent this season, United could potentially be in the market for a new backup goalkeeper this summer.
Altay Bayindir has struggled to make a positive impression in the limited game time he has had since moving to United from Fenerbahce almost three years ago.
Various reports have claimed that Andre Onana wants to return to United and fight for his place once his loan spell at Trabzonspor ends, but United see no future for him at Old Trafford, and Trabzonspor is reportedly keen to keep him at the club.
Radek Vitek had an incredible season on loan at Bristol City, but it is unclear what United's plan for him next season is, with all options seemingly open.
Bayindir opens up on his future
Altay Bayindir could potentially leave United this summer.
Bayindir, who was Fenerbahce's No. 1 goalkeeper before moving to United, has only played seventeen games for United in three seasons at the club.
“I am a person who likes to play," Bayindir recently told the press.
"I don’t know what I will experience in the future. A football player needs to take the right step in his career. I would like to be in the field more. If a decision needs to be taken for this, we will take it. We will do whatever needs to be done. Time will show us everything.
“It is a source of pride that the Turkish flag is flying at Old Trafford. One of the biggest cities in England, and that I am the reason for it.
"In fact, a video was shot at that time. Then my father was very touched, he liked it very much, and he was proud. I can’t describe it in words. Old Trafford is a historic stadium," the Turkish goalkeeper explained.
Bayindir isn't good enough
United need a reliable backup goalkeeper, and Bayindir has failed to prove that he fits that profile.
He delivered an excellent performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup last season, but has shown no other glimpses of quality during his time in England.
Bayindir started the season as no.1 as Ruben Amorim opted to choose him ahead of Andre Onana, but United looked a lot more stable when Senne Lammens started playing.
Bayindir is poor on the ball. In n addition to that, he is awful at dealing with crosses, which is becoming an increasingly crucial quality in a goalkeeper given the way English football is going.
Both Onana and Bayindir should be sold this summer to make room for a reliable backup goalkeeper, whether that is Vitek or someone else.
