Manchester United are eyeing a new addition to their left-hand side this summer, despite focusing on their midfield issues.
Manchester United's summer transfer window is beginning to take shape after reports that Éderson had agreed a deal to join the club from Serie A side Atalanta.
The Brazilian is unlikely to officially sign for United until after the World Cup, as he was a late addition to Carlo Ancelotti's Brazilian squad due to an injury to another player.
Éderson is the first of what is expected to be at least two central midfielders to move to Old Trafford this summer. Director of Football Jason Wilcox will be looking to replace Casemiro with a high-profile defensive midfielder, as well as adding to the engine room with other players to provide quality depth for the Champions League next season.
United are also eyeing new additions to their left-hand side, although which position remains up for debate. Patrick Dorgu's future is likely to determine what area of the wing they will target this summer. If the Dane - as is widely believed - is to continue as a left-winger, then signing a new left-back makes sense, and the other way round if he is to return to full-back.
Newcastle United's Lewis Hall has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with links seemingly growing after being left out in the final games of the season. Hall was also unlucky not to make Thomas Tuchel's England squad, despite being many fans' starting left-back in their preferred XI's.
Hall wants Newcastle exit
Lewis Hall has reportedly blamed Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe for missing out on the England World Cup squad, as per Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun.
A source close to the player has said that the England international was involved in a row with Howe, and figures at St. James' Park fear their working relationship has broken down.
Nico O'Reilly and Djed Spence have been chosen ahead of Hall in Tuchel's squad, while teammates Dan Burn and Tino Livramento have also been included as potential left-back options.
While Newcastle impressed in the Champions League in the early months of last season, their 12th-place finish in the Premier League will leave them without European football next season.
Having begun his career at Chelsea, Hall will want to return to Europe next summer, and United could be a real option for him.
Michael Carrick's squad return to the Champions League next term for the first time since Erik ten Hag was in charge, and will be hoping they can give a good account of themselves after a good summer transfer window.
Hall is perfect Shaw replacement
While he was considered a midfielder in the Chelsea academy, Hall would be the perfect long-term replacement for Luke Shaw.
As good as he was last season, Shaw will not be able to play at the same level forever. And if history is anything to go by, he will not play too much next season. Shaw's career has followed patterns of a season as a crucial player, immediately followed by a season struggling with injuries.
He started all 38 of 38 Premier League matches last term.
Hall and Shaw are of similar profiles. Both like to attack, but understand when to balance it with defending. They can invert inside or overlap down the line. Crossing is amongst their biggest strengths. I could go on.
At just 21 years old, Hall would be the perfect replacement for Luke Shaw. And he could be United’s first-choice left-back for some time.
