Man Utd Hold Talks Over Three Left Back Targets Including Lewis Hall

Manchester United will be among the busiest sides in the transfer market this summer, as they need to improve the quality of the squad for the return to the Champions League next season. 

Michael Carrick - who will have a say in transfers this summer - will be desperate to secure several impressive new signings to compete in Europe and the Premier League, with a brilliant opportunity next season. 

While Arsenal have kept Mikel Arteta, Chelsea have only recently appointed Xabi Alonso, Liverpool have just appointed Andoni Iraola, and Manchester City will be led by Enzo Maresca after Pep Guardiola's departure. The biggest rivals to the title will be in transition seasons - United need to capitalise, and it starts with a good summer window. 

Of course, the focus for United this summer will be replacing Casemiro, who departed Old Trafford before the final game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion, but United will also be targeting other positions. 

United have recently been linked with left-wingers, centre-backs, and left-backs, but it appears to be the latter that is currently at the top of the list. 

Having not been called up to England's World Cup squad, Lewis Hall appears to be on the market this summer, although Newcastle United will not want to sell. 

TeamTALK have reported that Newcastle are aware Hall may want to consider his future elsewhere, so they value him at £60 million. United are said to view him as a "serious target", so the high fee may not put them off. 

The report continues to say that Hall is not the only option, as "extensive work" has been done behind the scenes on Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown and Barcelona's Alejandro Balde. 

TeamTALK states that both players fit the "exact profile" that Jason Wilcox is looking for this summer. 

This could see Luke Shaw drop to the bench for the majority of next season, having started all 38 Premier League matches last term for the first time in his career. 

In the report, TeamTALK says that Patrick Dorgu is now considered more of a left-winger than a left-back at Old Trafford. However, with the options United are considering, that may not be the best decision. 

Balde and Brown are both attack-minded left-backs who would look to push up the left flank and allow the left-winger in front of them to invert into the channel. This would work well with Matheus Cunha, but that is what Dorgu has done already this season when starting at left-back. 

Signing Lewis Hall would make more sense due to his versatile profile. Hall came through the Chelsea ranks as a central midfielder, so he does not always look to overlap the winger, but he does not always invert either. He's like Luke Shaw. It depends on the game state. 

If United are looking for a like-for-like replacement, Hall has to be top priority. Harry Amass from the Under-21s could be considered, too.
