While Nottingham Forest have spent the season fighting relegation, Elliot Anderson has been a shining light for them, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

One of the biggest standouts for the Englishman is his ability to play both a box-to-box role, and a deeper role depending on what his team requires, this makes him even more desirable as he can slot into almost any midfield and add something impactful.

Elliot Anderson is currently one of the most sought after midfielders in world football right now with many of the big clubs in Europe keen on the player.

However, it will take a lot to get him. Nottingham Forest recently rejected Man City's opening bid for the player as they hold out for an offer similar to that West Ham accepted for Declan Rice a few seasons back.

Despite the hefty price tag, this could still be a positive for Manchester United. Following the opening bid from the Sky Blues, we have not seen any signs of Anderson himself pushing for the move, which could suggest that maybe Old Trafford is his preferred destination.

This therefore leaves a lot up in the air about Anderson's future, as we are still unsure which team he prefers or what City's breaking point will be when it comes to the price.

Furthermore, Newcastle's Sandro Tonali is emerging as a strong option for Man City if the Anderson deal can’t get done, with Arsenal also keen on the Italian.

This also begs a lot of questions. Does City's interest in Tonali give Man United a bit of an opening, or should they fear that two of their biggest targets are being monitored by teams that finished above them?

Also, with Arsenal lurking around Tonali, it has created a nightmare scenario for Manchester United where they could potentially lose out on both.

Anderson may be looked at as Manchester United's number one target, however not only are there plenty others to choose from, but there are some flaws that go with his perks.

Firstly, the price. The price is currently somewhat ambiguous as all Forest have said is that they want a sum north of £100 million, making it a much riskier deal as at that price he simply must perform to an extraordinary level.

Secondly, he has not played as the main defensive midfielder consistently this season in comparison to an Aurelien Tchouameni. Although he has shown briefly that he can do it, is he ready to be the rock in United's midfield.

However, something that may be on United's minds is the success of Declan Rice so far at Arsenal. A player signed for over £100 million from a lower Premier League side, who is not an integral part to the team and a huge success.

Therefore, if they believe that Anderson can emulate the success of Declan Rice, then they should try their upmost to avoid said talent going to one of their biggest rivals without putting up a fight.

There are obviously two sides to the coin when it comes to this transfer, and it will be very intriguing to see which club wants him more.
