On the first of November, 2024, Manchester United announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club's new head coach, after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.

After some impressive performances in the Champions League with Sporting, Amorim made the switch from Lisbon to Manchester to try to bring the glory days back to Old Trafford, after a run of unsuccessful managers since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Unfortunately for the Portuguese head coach, things went from bad to worse during his tenure at the club, as he recorded the lowest win ratio of any permanent manager in the Premier League era.

After a 14-month spell at United, his 2025/26 Premier League campaign was cut short when, after an incendiary post-match press conference after a 1-1 draw against Leeds in January, INEOS decided to part ways with Amorim, appointing Michael Carrick as the head coach for the rest of the season.

Carrick saw an immediate turnaround at the club as soon as he joined, switching from Amorim's 3-4-3 formation, which he stubbornly stuck with, to a 4-2-3-1 setup, and with players lining up in their preferred positions, performances instantly improved. Man Utd picked up more points from January until the end of the season than anyone else in the league.

After a period of relative silence following his sacking, AC Milan announced the former Man Utd boss as their new head coach, replacing Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed after Milan missed out on Champions League football.

AC Milan are already seemingly showing impetus to get back to the summit of the Serie A, with the Italian side agreeing a club-record fee for PSG striker Goncalo Ramos.

The Italian side were also reportedly interested in Manuel Ugarte, but his injury at the World Cup would have certainly hampered that. Instead, they are now reportedly eyeing another Man Utd star, in the form of Mason Mount.

As reported by Milanpress.it, Amorim has given the green light for club-to-club negotiations to start, with the outlet reporting that the 27-year-old is valued at around £21.5 million, but believe they could agree to a lower fee.

However, Manchester Evening News reporter Steven Railston has cast doubt on the news, claiming that there is no contact between the two parties, with Mount seen as an important part of the squad for next season.

There was real excitement when Manchester United signed Mason Mount, a Chelsea star who was a product of their academy. While a £55 million fee was seen as slightly too high, the versatile midfielder could have been an excellent signing for United.

Unfortunately, injuries have plagued his time at Old Trafford, with Mount suffering ten separate injuries, which have seen him miss a total of 70 games during his three season stint in Manchester.

It simply hasn't worked out for the Cobham graduate, and with Manchester United expected to make several midfield transfers over the summer, they will also need to raise funds to finance those signings.

Perhaps in a slightly slower league, his injuries could be less of an issue, and with Amorim expressing that Mount was perfect in his tactical setup during his time at United, it could be a perfect move for both player and club.
