Michael Carrick’s permanent appointment could trigger a bold move for a certain Premier League star, potentially ending Mason Mount’s underwhelming Old Trafford tenure as the Red Devils overhaul their midfield.

Can Man Utd win the PL next season?

Manchester United's midfield has been a major topic of discussion for the last few seasons, and although the 25/26 season can now be viewed as a success with European football secured, fans agree that it is an area of the pitch that needs strengthening.

Bruno Fernandes has continued to prove his value to the club season after season, and is on track to break the Premier League assist record with three games left to play. Whilst Kobbie Mainoo has been revitalised under Michael Carrick to the delight of the whole United fanbase.

However, apart from Mainoo and Fernandes, United's midfield options are few and far between. Casemiro has already announced he will be departing Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, whilst Mason Mount and Manuel Ugarte haven't made any impact since making their move to Manchester.

Rumours have been swirling since the start of Carrick's reign about who he may bring in if he were to secure the job on a permanent basis. A certain Premier League star has now been rumoured as becoming a leading target for United if Carrick was to take over the side for the foreseeable future.

Rogers would be a top target if Carrick is given job permenantly

Morgan Rogers has been one of the stand out players for Aston Villa, who have had a season filled with highs and lows but currently find themselves sitting in fifth place, and looking very likely to secure Champions League football.

The Aston Villa star has reportedly been linked with United, according to Ben Jacobs. Speaking to The United Stand, he explained: "Morgan Rogers, if Carrick gets the job, is also going to become, I think, one of Manchester United's leading targets in that position."

It would be one of the biggest moves of the summer if it were to happen, as the England international is highly rated at Villa Park and would likely cost a bumper fee to steal the star player from The Villains.

Ben Jacobs also reported that Morgan Rogers' ability to drift out wide is an extremely attractive trait for United and the style they are looking to play going forward, similar to Matheus Cunha.

It would be a move that sends a serious message to other Premier League clubs that the Red Devils are looking to fight back at the top. However, it also means that, for a specific United player, their time in Manchester may be coming to a close after failing to make the impact expected of them upon their arrival.

Is a Rogers move the end for Mason Mount?

Mason Mount is a player who never really seemed suited to Manchester United, and the way his career at Old Trafford has panned out, it has lived up to that expectation.  The former Chelsea star has been unlucky with injuries and looked a shell of the player he was at Stamford Bridge.

The attacking flair of Mbuemo and Cunha being brought into the club was the first sign that the higher ups at United felt like Mount wasn't the player they thought could take them forward and achieve success in the Premier League.

The signing of Morgan Rogers would be the final nail in the coffin for Mount, as they both play a similar role on the pitch, and it wouldn't come as a surprise to many if the 27-year-old made a move away from Manchester in the summer to re-energise his career

Whatever the final outcome is, it feels like Mount's United chapter has came to an end and it would not offend many fans if he was shipped out for a cheaper fee, in order to reduce the wage bill to make way for a bigger, less injury-prone player.
