Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has doubled down on his commitment to return major honours to the club.
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has reaffirmed his unwavering ambition for the club to lift major honours under his leadership.
Marinakis addressed supporters on Monday following the appointment of Oliver Glasner as the Reds’ new head coach.
Glasner left Crystal Palace when his contract expired at the end of June, having refused repeated offers of a new deal, and left Selhurst Park as the Eagles’ best-ever manager.
Now, just days later, the Austrian will step out next season at the City Ground, having been chosen to succeed Vitor Pereira.
Pereira was dismissed after the club triggered a break clause in his contract, with news of Glasner’s arrival following shortly after.
For Forest, Glasner is a coup. Having won an FA Cup, FA Community Shield and UEFA Europa Conference League title with Palace, as well as a Europa League title with Eintracht Frankfurt, he is a serial winner.
It had been thought that he was on the cusp of joining AC Milan just weeks ago, but they instead opted to appoint former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.
With a proven winner taking the reins at the City Ground, Glasner’s announcement was a good time for Marinakis to make clear his targets.
He did so in typical fashion, reaffirming his desire to bring major honours back to the City Ground when speaking to club media.
"In our discussions with Oliver, it was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed,” he revealed.
“He has consistently demonstrated throughout his career that he can build outstanding teams and deliver success against the strongest competition.
"It has always been our goal to establish Nottingham Forest once again among the leading clubs in England and Europe.
“Our ambition is not simply to compete – our ambition is to win, to challenge for major honours and to create a football club that our supporters can be proud of for many years to come.
"Oliver is a winner. He has earned success through his leadership, his personality and the style of football his teams play. We believe he is the right person to lead us into this next chapter, and I am delighted to welcome Oliver to the club.”
