Nottingham Forest look set for a monumental pre-season test against European giants Barcelona as part of a mini-tournament.

Forest have already announced a warm-weather training camp in Portugal later this month, where they will take on Blackburn Rovers, Vitoria SC and Sporting CP.

On top of this, three domestic friendlies - one at Notts County and two at the City Ground, against Stade Brestois and Bayer Leverkusen - have been revealed as part of their pre-season preparations.

Now, Forest look set to add to their pre-season fixture list with their expected participation in a mini-friendly tournament.

Alongside Forest, Barcelona and Serie A side Udinese are expected to feature in the three-team tournament, which is set to take place in Udine, Italy, on August 8th, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

It comes days after first being reported as a possibility by Ben Jacobs.

The exact format and details of the tournament remain unknown, but it promises to be a showcase of elite talent and a significant test for Forest.

Last season saw Forest return to UEFA competition for the first time in 30 seasons, in a Europa League campaign that saw the Reds reach the semi-finals.

Though that campaign saw Forest face a host of prestigious European sides, like Real Betis, Porto, and Fenerbahce, they all pale in comparison to five-time Champions League winners Barcelona.

Forest are not the only English opposition that Barcelona will face this pre-season, with a friendly against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s already announced.
