Oliver Glasner has issued a detailed update on Nottingham Forest's current fitness situation.

Oliver Glasner has confirmed a fresh fitness woe for Nottingham Forest ahead of the Reds' test against Manchester City.

Forest will welcome Enzo Maresca's side to the City Ground on Saturday as they look to enter the international break on a high, after a torrid start to the campaign.

Glasner's side are in a bleak position; 19th in the Premier League with just one win from their opening nine games, and a test against eight-time (for now) champions City will be far from a great opportunity to arrest that form.

Speaking before the game, Glasner has revealed a mixed injury report for Forest, with some potential returning players counteracted by a fresh blow.

Igor Jesus could return

Glasner has confirmed that Brazilian forward Igor Jesus could return at the weekend, after training all week with no adverse reaction.

“Igor trained the full week so far and looks good, with no reaction," he confirmed on Thursday.

The Brazilian has not featured since Forest's home defeat against Coventry before the previous international break due to a calf issue.

Nicolo Savona gearing up for return

Another player who is nearing a return is Nicolo Savona, who has not featured for Forest since January due to a serious knee injury, which he suffered a setback for near the start of the season.

He is not in contention to feature against Man City, but could bolster Glasner's squad after the international break if all goes to plan.

“Savona joined the team training today," the Austrian revealed. "We managed the load in the sessions because when you have been out for seven months, we have to be careful, but he is on track.

“It looks like he will get some minutes in the friendly during the international break."

Nicolas Dominguez faces significant setback

In the biggest blow of the day, Glasner also revealed that Nicolas Dominguez has suffered a major setback in his return after missing two games through a hamstring issue.

After briefly returning to training, the Argentine midfielder is now set to face a couple of months on the sidelines.

“Nico Domínguez joined training too," he said, "But, unfortunately, he had a setback and suffered a re-injury, and he will be out for up to eight weeks now."

Other concerns

There are a handful of other concerns in the squad ahead of the game on Saturday, which Glasner will hope will not progress into any concrete issues to give him further selection headaches.

But, for the time being, he admitted that Dan Ndoye has suffered from illness briefly this week, while Daniel Muñoz has a minor foot issue, but is still training.

“There are minor issues," he conceded. "Dan was ill one day. Dani Muñoz, that’s why he didn’t start at Brentford; he had some issues with his foot, but he looks okay and has trained this week.

“Right now the weather is getting colder and the games are increasing. We have some niggles but all others should be available.”

Forest need a result

Football clubs need points, and few need them as desperately as Nottingham Forest do right now.

With just a single win all season, the Reds are staring down the barrel of another gruelling relegation battle, with no sign of immediate improvement.

Perhaps most frustratingly is the fact that Forest have, generally, not played badly. But a wave, or more so a tsunami, of profligacy has covered the squad, which has Forest with the fewest goals scored so far in England's top six divisions this season.

Glasner is not thought to be under imminent threat, despite discontent from a minority of understandably concerned supporters, but neither the head coach nor the club can afford for the dismal run to continue much longer.
