A look at new Nottingham Forest B Team Head Coach Dylan Malicheff and exclusive insight into what he will bring to the club.
Nottingham Forest today announced the appointment of Dylan Malicheff as the club’s new B Team Head Coach.
At a time when so much promising young talent is emerging on Trentside, it is an important appointment, and it is unsurprising that Forest took their time to make it.
Former boss Warren Joyce was a popular and respected figure at the club, but after a sub-par season which saw the young Reds fail to qualify for the Premier League International Cup, the decision was made that change was needed.
Almost a month on from Joyce’s departure, the club have identified and announced Malicheff as his successor.
Speaking after his arrival, Malicheff admitted his excitement to have joined Forest, saying: “I’m really looking forward to working in an environment where the staff operate at the highest level every day, with a clear focus on preparing players for their individual development and the demands of first-team football.”
While Malicheff may be excited to join, his arrival should also bring with it a wealth of excitement among fans and emerging Forest players.
His journey so far
Malicheff is just 34 years old and is considered by those who know him to be a very exciting young coach.
Born in Belgium, Malicheff has an extensive background in youth coaching, despite his own tender age.
He quickly progressed through the ranks at his first club, KV Mechelen, being promoted to assistant head coach of the club’s under-21s just two years after joining as a youth coach.
After spending 18 months as Dutch club Helmond Sport’s assistant manager, Malicheff returned to Belgium.
He spent the past two years back in his native Belgium, with a stint at Club Brugge before his most recent role as Anderlecht under-18s’ head coach.
Malicheff led the 34-time Belgian champions’ youth side to a fourth-placed finish last season, catching the eye as his move to Nottingham Forest materialised.
What he will bring to Nottingham Forest
Understandably, very little is known about Malicheff this side of the English Channel.
Roundtable spoke to renowned Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who offered an insight into what to expect from the young coach.
“He is a top coach who is heavily linked to an offensive football game perspective,” he revealed.
“I also think he will give an extra academic input into the young players at Nottingham Forest.”
With so many exciting young talents, like Zach Abbott, Jimmy Sinclair and Lamin Sillah, among others, emerging from the academy, Malicheff has an exciting project on his hands.
