Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has explained why fit-again Brian Brobbey did not feature in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth despite being named in the squad for the Europa League clash against SCU Torreense just days prior.
Brobbey has trained with the Sunderland squad since returning from a hamstring injury he sustained for the Netherlands during the international break, and Le Bris has outlined why he is taking a "cautious" approach with the forward's return.
Le Bris said: “We decided not to rush the process,
“He is in a good place and has trained with the squad all week, but after a hamstring injury, it is still important to stay cautious.
“We have delayed his game time a little bit, but probably this week we will see him if everything is going right.”
As a result, Sunderland supporters will be waiting and hoping to see Brobbey feature in either Thursday's trip to Lech Poznan in Europe or Sunday's visit of Leeds United in the top flight.
