Sunderland will not be selling striker Brian Brobbey on deadline day of the 2026 summer transfer window after the Dutchman was linked with a move to Serie A side Como.

Multiple reports in Europe have suggested that Como were considering a late transfer play to sign the Sunderland star, but the Black Cats have no intention of letting their number nine leave, especially at such a late stage of the window.

Sunderland Echo reporter James Copley outlined that Sunderland sources have made clear that Brobbey will not be leaving on the final day of the window, given his importance to the immediate future of the Stadium of Light project in the season ahead.

Brobbey ended last season as the club's top goalscorer with seven goals in his debut campaign in the Premier League after arriving from Eredivisie giants Ajax for a fee in the region of £20m, and following that enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign for the Netherlands with three goals.

Throughout last season, Brobbey scored some imperative and iconic goals for Sunderland and had a hand in many others, with the lasting memory being his winner in the Tyne-Wear derby comeback at Newcastle United, which etched the Dutchman's name into Black Cats folklore forever.

As a result, Brobbey is obviously viewed as an integral component of Regis Le Bris' squad with Sunderland fighting on four fronts this season, and the player has not indicated wanting to pursue a move elsewhere after one year on Wearside.

Brian Brobbey Has Started Season For Sunderland In Slow Form

Clearly, Brobbey remains an imperative part of the Sunderland project, but the 24-year-old has endured somewhat of a slow start to the new Premier League campaign.

Within Sunderland's opening two outings, Brobbey has managed just one shot on target combined in the opening weekend defeat at Ipswich Town and Sunday's win over Fulham on home soil, and was brought off by Le Bris just after the hour-mark in both games.

Thankfully, on Sunday, super substitute Wilson Isidor scored the winner for Sunderland against Fulham, and his injection of pace and dynamism was a welcome addition to proceedings by Le Bris, which helped turn the tide in the Black Cats' favour.

Regardless of early season form, with Brobbey and Isidor the Black Cats have an impressive goalscoring duo, who both have different profiles to trouble opposition defences in various ways.

Brobbey has the brute strength and mammoth back-to-goal play, whereas Isidor has the sheer pace to run in behind and stretch the opposition backline, evidenced by his winner against Fulham.

For now, Brobbey remains Le Bris' first-choice striker at the start of the season, but Isidor will be pushing for a place in the starting XI for Saturday's trip to Brentford following his pivotal impact against Fulham.
