Sunderland made six signings in the summer transfer window, with varying degrees of success seen so far this season heading into the international break.
Sunderland enjoyed a fruitful period of business within this summer's transfer window ahead of the 2026/27 season, with six fresh faces added to Regis Le Bris' squad, encompassing an estimated £60m outlay from the Stadium of Light hierarchy.
On the field, all of those signings barring one have made their debuts in the red-and-white stripes to varying degrees of success, with some hitting the ground running and others clearly needing time to develop.
Amid the international break, SunderlandRoundtable has rated the players that the Stadium of Light transfer team recruited in the summer, based on their performances so far this season and what this bodes for the rest of the campaign.
Thomas Meunier - A
Sunderland signed full-back Thomas Meunier as a free agent following his exit from Ligue 1 giants Lille, and so far the experienced defender has made an instant positive impact for the Black Cats.
Meunier has notched two assists in seven appearances across all competitions, with his presence in the right wing-back role impacting in both defence and attack for Le Bris' side.
Signing a player of his calibre and experience, with some much-needed physicality and height, has been an understated yet stellar signing from Sunderland, who will undoubtedly continue to perform throughout the campaign.

Dayann Methalie has made two appearances for Sunderland so far since his £25.7m arrival from Toulouse, with his Premier League debut against Manchester City proving to be a baptism of fire for the French youth international.
Methalie gave away the foul for Enzo Fernandez's opener at the Etihad, but the 20-year-old recovered from his early error and performed commendably against City in his first full 90 minutes for the Black Cats.
Clearly, the French youth international has promise and the raw attributes to be an excellent full-back in the not-so-distant future, but Methalie knows himself he has a lot to learn at Sunderland in the next stages of his development.
Jules Ahoka - A
20-year-old prospect Jules Ahoka has made just one appearance for Sunderland, in the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Hull City, leaving the Black Cats faithful extremely excited for what could come from the former Royal Antwerp starlet.
Ahoka was outstanding in the heart of midfield for Sunderland against Hull, and although it is a small sample size, his first performance for the Black Cats was near-faultless in every third.
Following the international break, Ahoka will be tested once again whenever Le Bris grants him his Premier League debut, but the Congolese prospect has shown he clearly has immense potential.

£30.8m arrival from Lyon, Malick Fofana, is yet to notch a goal or an assist for Sunderland in his first five outings, but the Belgian winger has shown flashes of brilliance, as well as commendable defensive work ethic.
Having featured in the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Europa League, there is clear trust and will from Le Bris to utilise the pacey winger, and this will eventually transpire into goal contributions.

Kevin Danso - A
Tottenham loanee Kevin Danso has made an impressive start to his Sunderland career with some mammoth performances in the Premier League and in the Europa League victory over AZ Alkmaar.
Danso's defensive acumen, passion, and endearing character has engraciated him to the Stadium of Light faithful instantly, who have collectively taken the Austrian international to their hearts as a new Black Cats cult hero.
His start at Sunderland has raised the question of why Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi wanted rid of Danso, and the struggling London outfit's loss has certainly been a gain for Le Bris, following his stellar showings at centre-back.

Late deadline day signing Juan Angulo is yet to make his senior debut for Sunderland after signing from Independiente del Valle for £5m, with his first appearance coming for the Black Cats' under-21s in the 3-1 win over Norwich City's under-21s before the break.
Therefore, it would be impossible to rate the 18-year-old, but the young striker is clearly a promising prospect considering that the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona had been keeping tabs on Angulo before he made his move to the Stadium of Light.
