Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has been in fantastic goalscoring form during the international break for Haiti.
Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has hit superlative form during the international break with his latest superb showing for the Haiti national side, at the most opportune moment for the Black Cats.
Unfortunately for Regis Le Bris, some of Isidor’s Sunderland teammates have not enjoyed as much of a fruitful period as the Haitian forward, particularly Dan Ballard and Brian Brobbey with their respective worrying hamstring injuries.
On Netherlands duty, Brobbey was withdrawn due to injury against Germany during the break with a visibly agonising hamstring concern, leaving the Stadium of Light faithful nervously awaiting confirmation of his injury and now long the goalscorer could be subsequently sidelined for.
Given that Le Bris has several stellar central defenders to call upon in the absence of Northern Ireland bruiser Ballard, an injury to him would not be as severe as one for the Dutch forward, who sits as Sunderland’s top goalscorer for the season thus far following his emphatic hat-trick at Manchester City before the break.
However, the Sunderland boss’ fears regarding Brobbey’s fitness will have been mitigated by Isidor’s stunning form on international duty, with the Black Cats ace enjoying yet another outstanding performance for Haiti.

Earlier in the international break, Isidor enjoyed a stunning display for Haiti against Trinidad and Tobago, in which the Sunderland ace created two assists and scored an injury-time winner to secure their CONCACAF Nations League Group win.
Within that win, Isidor enjoyed the most touches of any player in the opposition’s box (seven), took the joint-most shots (five) and notched the three goal contributions to shine on the global stage for Haiti.
Following that, in the early hours of Friday morning, Isidor enjoyed another headline-grabbing performance, playing a pivotal role once again in another crucial victory for his national side.
Against the Dominican Republic, Isidor recovered from missing a penalty kick to add two more goals to his growing Haiti tally, helping his national side secure an emphatic 4-1 win and marking three consecutive victories during the international break.

In Haiti’s latest win, Isidor once again took the most shots (seven) of any player on the field, showcasing his goalscoring intent that will be imperative in the coming stages of Sunderland’s season amid the potential period on the sidelines for Brobbey.
Not only has Isidor’s goalscoring form cemented his cult-hero status among Haiti’s footballing faithful, but it has also sent a pertinent reminder to everyone in Sunderland circles amid the lengthy international break.

Clearly, a player of Isidor’s calibre would ideally prefer to be the starting striker over Brobbey, but Le Bris’ attacking gameplay from kick-off evolves around the Dutchman’s dynamic hold-up play and ability to pin opposition defenders to create space in attacking pockets.
Unfortunately for the Frenchman, he could be without Brobbey for several weeks depending on the severity of his hamstring issue, but Isidor has shown that Le Bris should have nothing to fear given his incredible goalscoring form within the break.
The Haitian’s form in front of goal could not have came at a more important moment in the Black Cats’ season so far, and now the onus is on Isidor to continue his rich vein of goalscoring form and stake his claim for the starting number role when Sunderland return to action.
