Sunderland starlet Matty Young is set for another loan stint away the Stadium of Light this summer, with League One giants Huddersfield Town reportedly set to win the race for his services between the sticks.

According to journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon and Football Insider, third tier Huddersfield have set their sights on the Sunderland youngster, who is backed by Sunderland staff and supporters alike to have a bright future in football.

Over the last two seasons, the Academy of Light graduate has enjoyed successful consecutive loan stints with Salford City in League Two, gaining valuable senior experience.

In the most recent campaign, England youth international Young featured 50 times in all competitions for the Ammies, with his final game ending in heartache as Salford fell to a 3-0 defeat in the League Two play-off final at the hands of Notts County.

After keeping 15 clean sheets from 47 appearances in the fourth tier, and making 118 saves in the process, it is no surprise that League One outfit Huddersfield are seeking to secure his signature.

Fortunately for the Terriers, they appear to be at the top of the shortlist for Sunderland, with the Black Cats vetting potential suitors for the 19-year-old's next loan move.

Last month, boyhood Black Cats Young signed a new long-term contract at Sunderland, which has kept the England youth star tied down on Wearside until the summer of 2030.

Evidently, awarding Young with an extensive deal is a significant show of faith in his qualities and potential from the Sunderland hierarchy, who see the academy product as a potential Black Cats number one in the future.

As a result, the loan spell at Huddersfield would tick a lot of boxes, for all parties involved in the transfer.

From Young's point of view, the increased calibre of competition, crowds, and pressure compared to League Two would help to continue propelling his development amid his formative seasons.

More so, Sunderland would see Huddersfield as a suitable destination for the youngster, allowing him to enjoy a full season of first-team senior football once again.

The Black Cats hierarchy would also be well aware that former Sunderland stalwart Lynden Gooch is now plying his trade with the Terriers three years on from his emotional Wearside departure, and would be safe in the knowledge that Young's fellow Academy of Light graduate would be there to guide the goalkeeper.

Finally, from Huddersfield's perspective, the prospect of signing one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in English football would clearly be an exciting proposition, especially considering their aims to finish in the play-offs next season after concluding last year in ninth place.

Overall, Young's prospective loan switch from Sunderland to Huddersfield makes great sense for all involved, and it would be the next logical step in the future Black Cats number one's impressively rapid development.
