Fabrizio Romano has dropped some Celtic transfer news heading into the summer transfer window.
If Celtic do end up winning the league title this season, which remains a possibility, it would only paper over the cracks of what has been a poor campaign by the club's standards. They will need to add some quality to this squad in the summer transfer window, whether they finish with a double, one trophy or empty-handed.
At the same time, Celtic are not in a position to let any of their quality players leave. But then, plenty of them are being linked with moves away.
Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda have both been at the club since early 2022. So, their time in Glasgow might be coming to an end.
On the other hand, one of their teammates, who has been at Celtic for less than a season, is also being linked with a summer move.
Of course, we are talking about none other than Benjamin Nygren, the Swedish international who was recently crowned the Celtic Player's Player of the Year.
Nygren's performances have seen him being linked with a move away from Parkhead already.
According to Fabrizio Romano, several clubs are already keen on Nygren for this summer window.
To be fair, a large section of the Celtic fanbase have not been impressed with Nygren's overall play and might not be against the thought of seeing him leave for a club-record transfer fee or something in that region.
At the same time though, it is impossible to overlook his output. In his debut season, as part of a midfield three, Nygren has scored 20 goals and provided eight assists to go with it.
Can Celtic afford to let someone with his output leave the club at this point? Where would they be in the title race without his goals?
When they have a midfielder with Nygren's traits, would not be wiser to build around him so that they can maximise his strengths while hiding his weaknesses.
There is a debate to be had there for sure. But for now, the club need to focus on ending this season as strongly as possible.
They have three league games left with Hearts still three points ahead and a better goal difference as well. So, not only do they need to win all three of those matches but have to do so with a good margin. Right now, the Hoops are just squeezing out narrow wins. Hopefully, Nygren will find his scoring boots again.
In the Scottish Cup, they have a final against Dunfermline Athletic. If Martin O'Neill can somehow get a double out of this team, then he deserves all the credit in the world.
