Anthony Joseph has confirmed that Celtic are closing in on the signing of the £7 million-rated player.
Celtic appear to be closing in on two more signings. Earlier, we reported on Landon Emenalo being lined up for a move to Parkhead, once he has recovered from a minor injury picked up in Chelsea training.
Emenalo will add another option to Celtic's left-back department. But the youngster is not the only player the Hoops are seemingly closing in on right now.
The Celtic midfield department needs more additions as well. Arne Engels recently completed a Championship record move to West Ham United. Paulo Bernardo has also left on loan. And Reo Hatate is widely expected to leave as he targets a top five league switch.
On the other hand, the only midfield addition Celtic have made so far this summer is Mika Baur, who was signed from SC Paderborn and looked solid in his full debut against LASK in midweek.
More depth is needed, though, in the middle of the park. And it does look like it could be on the way very soon.
Celtic in talks to sign Bosnian international
According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in talks to sign Slovan Liberec midfielder Ermin Mahmic.
The clubs are discussing a potential fee of around £7 million, with £1.5 million in add-ons, for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international.
Talks are believed to be progressing well, with only the structure of the deal being negotiated at this stage.
So, it does look like another signing that Celtic are poised to get over the line. And it is one that the supporters should be quite happy with.
What does Ermin Mahmic bring to the table?
It is worth pointing out that most people do not feel that Mahmic would be the replacement for Engels in the Celtic midfield.
Instead, he is more widely viewed as an understudy to Benjamin Nygren, who could eventually replace him in the starting XI if the Swede does end up getting a big-money move somewhere in the future.
And with the kind of football that Nygren is playing at the moment, Celtic should start preparing for life after him at Parkhead already.
Nygren is in the form of his life right now. He has scored four goals and provided four assists in four games this season. That includes a goal and an assist in the game against LASK.
So, he would be someone Mahmic could learn a lot from while serving as his cover option in the Celtic squad. And if this is indeed what the club are planning, they deserve credit for the long-term vision.
