Anthony Joseph has dropped some fantastic Celtic news as it looks like the club are now close to agreeing another deal.
Celtic fans have been waiting for the club to announce their next signing since the arrival of Mika Baur. Of course, it has not been long since the German midfielder arrived.
But with very little time left in the summer transfer window, Celtic need to move quickly to put the final brushstrokes on their squad.
The club's 3-0 win over LASK in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier play-off should help them make a few swift decisions. And it looks like the Hoops are close to signing a left-back.
Celtic close to agreeing deal
According to Anthony Joseph, Celtic are close to agreeing a deal for Chelsea left-back Landon Emenalo.
It’s understood that Emenalo is expected to join Celtic on a straight season-long loan deal. The left-back picked up a knock in training with Chelsea and has been allowed to recover before finalising the paperwork on the move.
So, it looks like if nothing unexpected happens, Emenalo will be a Celtic player soon. And to be honest, that has been the general idea for a while, although Joseph's update pretty much confirms it.
Signing Emenalo is a risky move for Celtic
It is an interesting move to solve the left-back situation, that is for sure. The club did not make a move to bring back Marcelo Saracchi, even though he was available for a small transfer fee and had done incredible well on loan from Boca Juniors last season.
Instead, they have gone for Emenalo. The 18-year-old left-back is very talented, for sure. But one cannot overlook the fact that he has not played a single senior game so far.
So, one can only wonder how he will adjust to the senior level. Obviously, he was a standout in youth football. And to be fair, he looked pretty good in pre-season for Chelsea, which might have convinced Celtic to make the move.
That being said, it is still going to be a step up for Emenalo. And with Kieran Tierney's fitness history, there are going to be minutes available at left-back when the Scotsman needs a rest.
Celtic have signed a few youngsters from the Premier League in recent times. They have not gotten to play much football though.
Jahmai Simpson-Pusey saw his loan spell from Manchester City cut short in the middle of the season. And Benjamin Arthur was not a regular in the first-team.
Will that turn out to be the story of Emenalo at Celtic Park as well? Or will he be more involved? Time shall tell.
