Celtic are reportedly considering a move for the former Manchester City player, who is a full Ireland international now.

Celtic put in a stellar performance to win 3-0 against LASK in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier play-off. The tie is far from over though. The visitors had plenty of chances on the night.

One player who was responsible for keeping the clean sheet secured was definitely the man between the posts Viljami Sinisalo.

Sinisalo was called upon numerous times, and he was up to the task on all those occasions. The goalkeeper certainly seems to have improved over the summer.

That being said, Celtic still need to bring in someone to at least compete with Sinisalo for the first-team spot. A move for Balazs Toth is thought to be close. But out of nowhere, the Hoops are being linked with a former Manchester City goalkeeper as well.

Celtic eyeing former Manchester City goalkeeper

Of course, Celtic do have their history with signing former Manchester City goalkeepers. Joe Hart was signed in 2021. Kasper Schmeichel replaced him in 2024. Could the Scottish champions look to repeat the trick a third time?

According to the Daily Echo, Dinamo Zagreb and Celtic are considering moves for Gavin Bazunu, who is expected to leave Southampton.

It is hard to imagine that Celtic would consider signing two goalkeepers in this transfer window while still having Sinisalo.

So, it looks like Bazunu might be the cover option for the club, in case a move for Toth does not end up happening. But as things stand, that one looks a lot more advanced.

Who is Gavin Bazunu?

Bazunu came through the ranks at Shamrock Rovers before joining Manchester City. Unfortunately, he was never able to make a first-team appearance for the club.

Instead, he would end up joining Southampton, following loan spells at Rochdale and Portsmouth. He has been there since 2022 but could be on the move once again this summer.

Of course, it is worth mentioning that Bazunu is a full Republic of Ireland international and has represented his national team on 22 occasions.

He has also had loan spells at Belgian club Standard Liege and at Stoke City. So, the 24-year-old has a decent bit of experience under his belt.

If Celtic do end up signing him, one would expect Bazunu to compete with Sinisalo from day one. That being said, from what we have seen from the Finnish international at the start of the season, he looks more than up for it.
