Celta Vigo have officially announced some bad news for them heading into the game against Celtic this week.
Celtic passed with flying colours at the weekend, winning 7-1 against Hearts. To be honest, that is a result not many would have seen coming after how badly the Hoops have performed in recent weeks. In fact, they went into the game having lost four of their previous five.
So, it is far too early to declare that Celtic are back to their best. They will need to string together a few more results before we can start having that discussion.
Their next test promises to be a tough one as Celta Vigo will visit Celtic Park in the Europa League this week. With the Hoops losing their first two games in the competition, it is vital that they do not lose this one as well.
Celta Vigo find themselves on the same boat, having lost their opening two games of the Europa League campaign as well. So, expect them to be playing for the win too.
Celta Vigo confirm bad news ahead of game against Celtic
Unfortunately for Celta Vigo, they will be without one of their most important players when they take on Celtic this week.
The club have officially confirmed that Borja Iglesias has sustained a myotendinous tear in the soleus muscle of his left leg, which was confirmed by an MRI scan.
Iglesias, who won the World Cup with Spain in the summer, is expected to be out for approximately six weeks.
So, the chances of Iglesias featuring against Celtic are zero. That is bad news for Celta Vigo, as the striker scored 18 goals for them last season and is one of their most important players. Obviously, the Hoops have their injury problems going into the match as well.
Celtic must get a win against Celta Vigo
If Celtic want to make it to the next round of the Europa League, they will need to get a win against Celta Vigo. That is just the reality of the situation for Martin O'Neill's side.
The loss to Benfica last week was a blow for them. But even more damaging was the defeat against Ferencvaros at Celtic Park in their Champions League opener.
That is the type of match that you would have expected Celtic to win on paper. And as a result, they are already behind expectations.
On the other hand, coming into the campaign, a draw against La Liga opposition like Celta Vigo would have been viewed as a fine result. But that might no longer be the case, at least in terms of their hopes of making it past the group phase.
