Celtic have confirmed some fantastic news ahead of their game against St Johnstone this week.
Celtic will be looking to continue their perfect start in domestic competitions when they take on St Johnstone this week. And of course, it is also a chance for them to find some rhythm heading into the Scottish League Cup quarter-final against the Rangers at Ibrox at the weekend.
Obviously, you would have to consider Celtic the favourites. But at the same time, it would be a mistake to overlook what St Johnstone bring to the table, especially in their own backyard.
So, you would hope that Celtic bring their A-game to the table. And there is also some very positive news for them on the injury front heading into this fixture.
Celtic boss confirms injury boost for the club
Earlier in the day, it had emerged that Kasper Hogh and Kieran Tierney were back training with the group. And now, it has been confirmed by the manager himself.
According to The Herald, Martin O'Neill said ahead of the match against St Johnstone: "Well, we've got Kasper Hogh back the last couple of days, Kieran Tierney did a little bit of work with us this morning first time back, so we'll have a look to see how they are.
"We've got a couple of other fitness issues for players, but we'll try and go as strong as we possibly can."
When questioned about whether they could feature tomorrow night, O'Neill said: "Yeah, obviously Kasper's had the extra day, we'll see how they are tomorrow night."
Should Tierney and Hogh feature against St Johnstone?
Obviously, those are two of Celtic's most high-profile players. Tierney is the regular starter at left-back and key to this team. Landon Emenalo, the other option there, is also out injured.
Unfortunately, he has dealt with an injury recently but will hopefully be back to full fitness as soon as possible. His return to training is a positive.
On the other hand, Hogh became the most expensive signing in Celtic history this summer. The issue is, he has struggled to justify the fee that has been paid to sign him.
Now, many might argue that these are early days and he deserves time to settle in, which is very fair. That being said, the striker simply does not appear to have the attributes to be a top player for Celtic.
At the same time, Camilo Duran has been phenomenal when playing in that number 9 role. Moving him back on the wing to accommodate Hogh does not feel like the right thing to do.
But at the same time, it is hard to imagine that O'Neill will continue to bench someone who is the most expensive signing in Celtic history without giving him every chance possible of succeeding first. One has to wonder how much say the manager had on bringing him to Parkhead. That might impact the decision.
Also, it is important to note that O'Neill cannot make the mistake of rushing these players back into the team and risking a setback. At best, they should be given minutes off the bench against St Johnstone to get back into the groove of things.
