Celtic have completed an unexpected deal involving the 20-year-old midfielder, who has been in fine form this season.
Just a couple of months into the season and Celtic are in a world of trouble. It is quite evident that they did not do enough in the summer again.
The squad was weakened, and perhaps more than ever before. Key players like Daizen Maeda, Kelechi Iheanacho, Reo Hatate, Arne Engels and more left in the same window.
On the other hand, out of the signings that have been made, except for Camilo Duran, there is absolutely nobody who has been able to impress so far. That is not good news for a squad that has undergone so much turnover.
So, the January transfer window cannot come soon enough. Although, knowing how the club operate, one cannot confidently say how much will change even then. At the same time, an exit has been announced.
Celtic midfielder completes loan exit
Dumbarton have officially announced that Francis Turley has completed a move to join the club on loan from Celtic until January.
Turley has been in fantastic form for the B team this season. The midfielder has scored six goals and provided an assist in 13 games across all competitions.
So, the move to Dumbarton, who play in Scottish League Two, is certainly a very interesting one. It remains to be seen how much playing in the fourth tier of Scotland helps him in the long run.
There are many who might feel that Turley is ready to play at a higher level. He has been phenomenal in League Two this season and, at 20 years of age, is at a point where he should be able to cope with senior-level football.
Maybe that remains the long-term plan as well. After all, he has only gone on loan until January, when a step up in level could be in Celtic's plans, if his time at Dumbarton goes well.
Celtic continue to be linked with Gvidas Gineitis
The midfield remains an area where Celtic could still be looking to improve when the January transfer window opens.
The club did not do enough to replace players like Engels and Hatate, who left in the summer. And that has been felt.
Someone like Turley most probably would not have been able to make a difference in that area at this point in time.
So, the move to Dumbarton could be a good opportunity for him to learn and potentially be ready to play at a higher level, if or when he returns to Parkhead.
