Martin O'Neill appears to have made a key chance amid speculation around a potential Celtic exit.
There has been a ton of talk around Martin O'Neill and his future at Celtic in recent days. Going into the international break, it had seemed like there was a genuine chance that he might not be the club's manager coming out of it.
So far, it looks like a change is not on the cards. Otherwise, it would have been announced by now. But that does not mean that things have settled down.
Celtic have still lost three games in a row. Things can't continue on this trajectory after the international break. Otherwise, a change in the hot seat would become necessary.
As for O'Neill, there have been suggestions that he could choose to walk away from the Celtic post. But on the contrary, it looks like the Northern Irishman is actually more locked in moving forward and has made a meaningful change.
Martin O'Neill Makes Change After Heavy Criticism
O'Neill seems to have been travelling between Glasgow and London. Obviously, that is not ideal. And it looks like that is about to change moving forward.
While speaking on A Celtic State of Mind, Paul John Dykes said about the situation: “Martin O’Neill needs to be here all week.
“It’s my understanding that Martin O’Neill’s wife is now full time in Glasgow, so this travelling up and down to London certainly has stopped.
“But yes, I do agree that it needs to be a full time endeavour.”
It remains to be seen if this ends up having a positive impact on the team's performance moving forward or not. One would expect O'Neill to be more involved due to this change.
As for the team's strategy, Cameron Carter-Vickers' comments after the Glasgow Derby defeat seemed to suggest that at least some of the players would like deeper tactical instructions and setups.
Celtic Fans Have Been Critical of Martin O'Neill
O'Neill is a Celtic legend, and that will forever remain the case. But that does not mean that he has been exempt from the fans' criticism.
On the contrary, O'Neill has been on the receiving end of heavy criticism in recent weeks, and a large portion of the fanbase seems to have given up hope on him being able to turn things around.
In fact, this is one of the reasons many feel that he could quit, in order to preserve his legacy instead of allowing things to drag on and leave a bitter parting taste in the mouths of the supporters, similar to how it played out during Neil Lennon's second stint.
The upcoming games are going to be vital for Celtic. If they can produce results and recapture some of their form, perhaps there is still hope for this team. But if they continue to lose games, the club might not have a choice but to find a replacement for O'Neill.
