Celtic are said to be eyeing a move for the 26-year-old English striker, who is currently a regular for Sheffield United.
Celtic will need to add to their striker ranks in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Hoops have very little to no quality up top at the moment. Kelechi Iheanacho was signed in the summer as a free agent after he was let go by Sevilla. But he has struggled with form and fitness throughout the season. The Hoops are believed to have the option to extend his deal by one season, but it is hard to imagine that will be taken up.
Celtic also brought in a couple of strikers in the winter window. They signed Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and Junior Adamu from SC Freiburg.
Neither has been able to impress though. Celtic have options to buy included in both loan deals but considering how little impact the two have had, it is unlikely that either will be taken up.
The fact that Callum Osmand's return is being viewed as a great news for the club just goes to show how little quality is available to Martin O'Neill at this point in time.
So, the Celtic strike force is expected to look very different in the summer. And it looks like the Hoops are continuing to eye an English striker currently on the books at Sheffield United.
According to the Daily Record, Celtic and Rangers could rekindle their interest in Tyrese Campbell. The Hoops enquired in the January transfer window about the 26-year-old striker’s availability. They have continued to scout and keep tabs on him.
Sheffield United were not ready to part ways with Campbell in the middle of the season as the club aim to avoid relegation. That being said, his current contract is set to run out in the summer of 2027.
It is unclear whether Sheffield United will be able to find an extension with Campbell or not. If they are not, the club might consider parting ways with him next summer rather than risk losing him for free a year later.
Of course, signing Campbell would be a risk for Celtic. He is not someone who is scoring goals freely.
Campbell has scored six goals in 36 appearances for Sheffield United this season across all competitions. That is not a brilliant return and not what Celtic would be looking for.
Of course, Campbell would get a lot more chances to score if he were at Celtic. But that does not mean that his scoring rate would automatically improve. That would be up to him, being a consistent finisher. He has never scored more than 11 goals in a single season.
