A Celtic legend could be in line for a Parkhead return if Robbie Keane becomes the next manager of the club.

Robbie Keane has emerged as one of the frontrunners for the vacant Celtic job. Of course, the other name in the running is Martin O'Neill, who is 74 years of age and would not be a long-term solution.

Obviously, the Celtic fanbase is divided when it comes to the Keane links and whether he would be the right choice for the club or not.

Keane does not have a ton of experience in management. But he has proven himself to be a winner in that short time.

He won a couple of trophies with Maccabi and then did the same at Ferencvaros as well.

The expectations are very different at Celtic though. Let's not forget that Wilfried Nancy was a good manager in the MLS and had won stuff there.

Fortunately, Keane does know what the pressure is like at top clubs, albeit as a player. He spent time at Liverpool, Inter Milan, Tottenham and even at Celtic.

If Keane does end up getting the job, it might also mean the return of a few familiar faces to the Parkhead hot seat.

According to the Daily Record, Keane is prepared to put a strong support team around him. That would include Stephen Glass, Scott Brown and Jonny Hayes.

Obviously, the blockbuster name on that list is that of Brown. Broony, as he is known to Celtic fans, spent more than a decade with the Hoops and was the captain for much of it as their dominant run over Scottish football began.

Since then, Brown has become a manager himself. He had a solid run at Fleetwood Town followed by a stint at Ayr United.

He was shown the door by Ayr United following a poor run of form earlier this year. He is without a job at the moment. And it is hard to see a proper role for him moving forward as a head coach.

So, it would not be a bad idea for him to take a step back and be the assistant at a club like Celtic. In the long run, that might be the better move for him rather than taking up a head coach job in the lower leagues without much scope for upward trajectory.

Hayes is already at Celtic and coaches the B team. Of course, he spent three seasons playing for the club from 2017 to 2020. Brown was the captain for that entire run.

Glass would be a familiar face to Celtic fans as well. He played for Aberdeen and Hibernian, where he was teammates with Brown.

Interestingly, Brown had left Celtic to join Aberdeen as a player-coach when Glass was their manager. Hayes was playing for the Dons at the time as well.

So, the three will already know each other well from various places over the course of their careers and could be a very good backroom team for Celtic.
