Celtic made a double announcement before the Falkirk game that should give the team a lift.

Celtic will be looking to kick off their post-split fixtures with a win this weekend. Their first one is at home against Falkirk. The visitors were sixth after the first 33 matchdays in the Premiership.

Of course, considering the struggles that Celtic have had in recent times, they are likely not going to have any easy games for the remainder of the season. It is just about getting the results and picking up as many points as they can. Then it will depend on how things go for Hearts and the Rangers.

There was some good news coming out of Parkhead ahead of the game against Falkirk though, which should give a lift to the squad.

Two of the players have signed contract extensions. Luke McCowan has signed a deal until the summer of 2028. On the other hand, Liam Scales has been extended for four more seasons as his new term will run until the summer of 2030.

Scales has been an integral part of the Celtic starting XI for the past three seasons. The fans have always felt that the club can improve in that area of the pitch but somehow, he has managed to remain a starter. That deserves credit.

On the other hand, McCowan arrived in 2024 and although he has not been a nailed-on starter, he has been involved for sure. He made 41 appearances last season and has 40 to his name already this time around.

So, both of them could play a role at Celtic for the next few years to come at the very least. They are the type of players who do not get too many headlines but are important to build a squad.

Of course, Celtic are expected to strengthen in both those areas in the summer. Cameron Carter-Vickers has been dealing with another long-term injury while Benjamin Arthur is expected to return to his parent club when his loan deal comes to an end. So, the Hoops could do with some reinforcements in the heart.

On the other hand, the midfield could look very different come next season. In fact, McCowan might be the only midfielder at the club right now whose future is certain, especially after this contract extension.

Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo are expected to leave. The likes of Benjamin Nygren and Arne Engels could be on the receiving end of offers as well. Even Callum McGregor has been linked with a move away to reunite with Brendan Rodgers. And it remains to be seen if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's stay will be extended or not.
