Celtic have officially announced the midfielder's transfer, after rumours had broken out yesterday that the move was close.
We are in April, but Celtic have already agreed on one transfer move. No, this is not a joke. One of their midfielders has completed the switch, albeit only on a loan basis, and will remain there until the end of the year.
Celtic have signed a lot of highly-rated talents in recent years who have failed to meet their potential. Odin Thiago Holm's name definitely falls under that category.
There was a lot of excitement around Holm when he was signed in the summer of 2023 from Valerenga. In Norway, he was rated very highly and considered by some as the 'next Martin Odegaard'.
Unfortunately, Holm's career has been filled with one stumble after another since joining Celtic. He was getting a little bit of playing time early on at Parkhead but appeared to completely lose his place in Brendan Rodgers' plans after picking up a straight red card in a Champions League game against Feyenoord soon after having come on as a substitute.
Holm recently spent time out on loan at LAFC in the MLS but barely featured there either. Of course, he has not been helped by some medical issues he has faced. Let's hope that he can put them behind him.
Holm is a phenomenal talent, there is no doubt about that. But he simply has not been able to showcase that on the pitch.
Now, he is heading back to a club where they know all about his qualities. One would imagine that at Valerenga, he will not only be afforded the amount of chances that he needs but will also be given the right role to prosper as well.
For now, this is only a loan deal. But it would not come as a surprise if it ends up becoming permanent at some point in the future. Considering how things have turned out over the last few years, it is hard to imagine that Holm is part of long-term plans at Celtic.
You never know in football though. There is no mention of any option or obligation to buy. And Holm could end up doing so well at Valerenga that Celtic decide to bring him back and reintegrate him into the first-team.
