Martin O'Neill has confirmed that two Celtic players are out for the rest of the season.

Celtic will need to finish the season strongly if they want to add some more silverware to their cabinet. They are in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, where they will be taking on St Mirren. In the league, they trail both Hearts and the Rangers with just seven more Premiership games left to be played.

With the team looking so shaky at the moment, fans are not convinced that the Hoops have what it takes to get over the finish line.

If there is one man who can get the most out of the least, it is Martin O'Neill. It remains to be seen if the Northern Irishman can pull one more rabbit out of the magic hat.

Unfortunately, Celtic have now confirmed some bad news ahead of their title run-in. It has been confirmed that both Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers will not be back in action this season.

According to 67 Hail Hail, O'Neill said: “Jota and Carter-Vickers will not be available to us until next season."

Jota has been out of action since last season. He was brought back from Rennes for a transfer fee in the region of £9 million.

The Portuguese winger had failed at both Al-Ittihad and Rennes. But he did make a bright start to life after returning to Celtic, only to be cut short by injury.

Initially, the suggestion was that Jota would be back at some point in the first half of this season. But then, that was pushed back and now, it has been confirmed that the winger won't be back at all.

Will Jota be a major part of Celtic's plans when he returns? Or have the club moved on already?

As for Carter-Vickers, he suffered an injury this season and has undergone surgery. While Alistair Johnston has returned, it looks like the American is set to be out for the season and is even going to miss the World Cup.

Carter-Vickers is arguably Celtic's best option at centre-back and they have certainly felt his absence. Now, they will have to see out the season without him.

In the long run, it might be time to start thinking about life beyond Carter-Vickers as the starting centre-back. The American has been dealing with a ton of injuries and might no longer be the player that he was at his peak.

Let's see if Celtic end up strengthening their centre-back ranks in the summer. It is certainly a position where the Hoops can improve by making some quality additions.
