It looks like the Celtic player is open to the idea of leaving this summer amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.

There are a number of areas where Celtic need to strengthen this summer. After how underwhelming they have been this season, the Hoops cannot really afford to lose quality anymore. Yet, it looks like some of their best players continue to be linked with moves away from Parkhead.

Daizen Maeda is likely to leave at the end of the season, after coming close in the summer. And he might not be the only one.

Arne Engels is another player who seems to be drawing the interest of teams across Europe. He was believed to be on the receiving end of a £25 million transfer offer in the winter, which Celtic turned down.

Letting someone of Engels' importance leave in the middle of the season was never a question. But if a similar move was made in the summer, Celtic might change their minds.

On the other hand, it looks like interest continues to grow in Engels even though he has spent a decent chunk of time out injured recently.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a move for Engels recently. Of course, they are one of the biggest teams in Germany.

Also, let's not forget that Engels was playing in Germany, for FC Augsburg, before he was signed by Celtic.

According to Football Insider, Engels is open to a move away from Celtic this summer after Borussia Dortmund joined the race for his signature.

However, the optics of any such exit would not be great for Celtic. The club are already under tremendous pressure from the supporters for their lack of ambition in recent years. Will they risk letting one of their most talented players leave amid this?

Obviously, a lot depends on what Engels wants to do as well. But it does feel like he has a lot left to achieve at the club.

Engels arrived in the summer of 2023 for a club-record fee. And to be honest, in his debut season, he did not meet a lot of fans' expectations.

He has grown as a player since then though and is now widely recognised as one of Celtic's best midfielders, which is why clubs are willing to make offers of this magnitude for him.

It remains to be seen how things will turn out for Engels this summer. If Celtic let him go, it would be a tough task replacing him, that's for sure. Interestingly, rumours regarding a move for Issa Doumbia of Venezia have cropped back up lately.
