The 22-goal forward has hinted at a summer move amid rumours linking him with Celtic.
Celtic should be looking to strengthen significantly in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Hoops have been nowhere near the mark this season. And although a double is still possible, that should not an indication of where this squad is right now.
Celtic have struggled to comfortably get past most Scottish opponents over the course of the season, often barely squeezing out results by a one-goal margin. That cannot continue.
One of Celtic's biggest problems right now is that they do not have a reliable source of goals. Benjamin Nygren has been their highest goalscorer this season, and he plays in midfield. And even the Swede's output has declined recently.
So, Celtic need to add some goals to their roster over the course of the summer. One of the easiest ways to do that is by signing an in-form forward.
One mistake Celtic made in the winter was that they signed forwards who were out of form and not amongst the goals. Unsurprisingly, they have struggled in front of goal in the green-and-white jersey as well.
That should not be the case this summer. The club need to go out and sign forwards who are coming off noteworthy campaigns.
It would be safe to say that Tawanda Maswanhise has certainly made his mark this season. Motherwell have been the best footballing side in the Premiership in the eyes of many.
That has seen Celtic being linked with their manager Jens Berthel Askou. Unsurprisingly, a few of Motherwell's players are said to be on their radar as well, with one of them being Maswanhise, who has scored 22 goals across all competitions this season.
Celtic were heavily linked with the Zimbabwean international in the winter but a move did not happen. But if his comments are anything to go by, a summer exit from Motherwell seems possible.
According to the Daily Record, Maswanhise said:
"If a team wants you, you’ve just got to show them why they want you, but that shouldn’t be the main focus.
"You've just got to keep working then when the summertime’s here, off season, you can really look at your options and stuff.
"I always think about my future. I love my future because it’s exciting. With the achievements I’ve had this year, there’s more on the table for me, so we’ll see.
"Who knows what will happen in the future.
"I’ll probably speak to my agent in the next few weeks. Not long till the season ends now."
That does not sound like someone who is ruling out a move away from Motherwell. On the contrary, he seems excited about opportunities that might arrive in the summer transfer window.
It remains to be seen if Celtic will make a push for Maswanhise or not. Such a move would be even more likely if they end up hiring Askou as their next manager with Martin O'Neill set to step down after this season.
Of course, there are other candidates on the shortlist as well. So, let's just wait and watch how things play out over the next few weeks. For now, the focus has to be completely on the task at hand, which is getting over the finish line in the Scottish Premiership title race. There are four games left in the league.
