Celtic are one of the teams monitoring the goalkeeper, according to the Sky Sports reporter.
Following this weekend's results, Celtic are right back in the mix when it comes to the league title race. On the other hand, they are also in the final of the Scottish Cup. So, despite their poor form, the Hoops could end up winning a double this season.
Or they could finish it trophyless. Whichever way it ends, Celtic need to make sure that they strengthen their squad this summer.
Their performances have been nowhere near the level of expectations set for Celtic teams. They need to improve and as soon as possible.
One area where the club could do with reinforcements is goalkeeper. Kasper Schmeichel will be leaving at the end of his contract. On the other hand, Viljami Sinisalo's numbers are not exactly convincing that he is good enough to be the long-term number one.
So, Celtic could do with some competition at the very least when it comes to the goalkeeping spot. And it looks like a former Bournemouth man is on their radar.
According to Christopher Reidy, Celtic, Wycombe and Jagiellonia Bialystok are among clubs monitoring the Calum Ward for a potential transfer in the summer.
Ward signed a new deal with Motherwell in December that runs until the summer of 2027. So, he would have a year left at the end of the campaign.
Ward has been a regular starter for Motherwell this season as they have been one of the best teams in the Premiership. And let's not forget, their manager, Jens Berthel Askou, is believed to be one of the frontrunners for the Celtic job when Martin O'Neill steps down at the end of the season.
If Askou does end up getting the job, it would make sense for the club to go out and sign some players he knows well already. Ward would fit the criteria.
Ward is 25 years old and has not even entered his prime yet. But he is already topping the charts in a number of categories.
He is the number one goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership when it comes to goals prevented this season. At the same time, when it comes to distribution from the back, he is one of the most consistent in the league.
So, it is very easy to see why Celtic might be keeping a close eye on Ward heading into the summer window. Let's see if this interest leads to any place of substance.
