The Celtic player has been tipped as the replacement for the £100 million-rated Manchester City target.
The summer transfer window is always a game of dominoes. And it looks like one Celtic player is being eyed as a potential replacement, if a £100 million transfer takes place this summer.
Manchester City are relentless. Having missed out on the Premier League to Arsenal, they will be looking to strengthen this summer. And their eyes are set on Elliot Anderson.
Anderson is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and it is believed Nottingham Forest would want a transfer fee in the region of £100 million to part ways with him.
Obviously, that is an extraordinary fee. It would take Celtic several years to spend that kind of money on transfers. But it appears that they have a midfielder who is viewed as capable of replacing the £100 million-rated Anderson at Nottingham Forest.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Nottingham Forest see Arne Engels as the ideal profile to replace Anderson and wants to re-enter the race after a previous attempt in January.
Forrest are believed to have submitted a transfer bid in the region of £25 million to try and sign Engels in the winter but Celtic had turned it down.
Tavolieri also reports that Crystal Palace are aiming to convince Engels and beat Forest to his signature.
Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Engels. One thing is for sure, do not be surprised to see him playing his football in the Premier League next season.
Celtic did face a decent bit of criticism when they signed Engels for a club-record transfer fee a couple of summers back.
A lot of people did not see what the hype was all about. But two years down the line, it looks like the Celtic recruitment team have been proven right and they are going to bring in more than twice of what they had paid to sign Engels from FC Augsburg.
Unfortunately, that is the Celtic transfer model. Seeing the club's best players leave is part of the process.
Now, it remains to be seen who they end up replacing Engels with, if he does indeed leave the club this summer. A couple of players have been suggested as potential options.
One of them is Bosnia & Herzegovina midfielder, Ivan Basic, who is currently playing at the World Cup. He started their opening game against Canada and played for more than an hour.
At club level, Basic plays for FC Astana, who already seem to have decided that they won't stand in his way if the right offer comes in.
