Chris Sutton has slammed a mistake that Martin O'Neill constantly keeps making, which is hurting Celtic.

Martin O'Neill is a Celtic legend and will forever remain so. But a poor season in charge of the club could certainly have some impact on that legacy and how the fanbase remembers him, especially for those who were not around for his first run at Parkhead.

The manager had gotten his fairy-tale ending last season, when he guided Celtic to a Premiership and Scottish Cup double against all odds and expectations, having rescued them not once but twice.

It might have been the perfect opportunity for O'Neill to ride off into the sunset. Celtic had won the league title race on the final day at home, against Hearts, with minutes to spare. And then they won the Scottish Cup final against a Neil Lennon-managed Dunfermline Athletic.

It was absolutely perfect. But the club then offered O'Neill the chance to continue in a permanent capacity and he accepted. In hindsight, that might not have helped everybody.

Celtic are struggling badly at the moment and there are serious question marks about the tactical side of things. Comments from senior players like Cameron Carter-Vickers and Callum McGregor in the media have further added to the doubts about O'Neill's suitability for the Parkhead role.

Martin O'Neill keeps repeating some mistakes

It is worth pointing out that O'Neill had been out of management for more than half a decade, and was widely considered retired, before Celtic came calling last season.

The 74-year-old did exceptionally well to guide the team to silverware last season. But this time around, things simply are not working.

One mistake that O'Neill keeps on repeating is trying to fit Kasper Hogh into the starting XI, even though it clearly is not working for the striker right now.

Even Chris Sutton, one of O'Neill's bigger supporters in the media world, called it out recently. He wrote: "Playing Kasper Hogh and hooking him off after 45 minutes isn’t helping him and isn’t helping Celtic and isn’t helping Camilo Duran…"

Kasper Hogh is struggling badly in Celtic colours

Of course, Hogh was given the nod to start the game against Dundee United but failed to impress again. He was taken off at half-time.

It is not just a matter of Hogh not being able to perform either. One cannot forget that Camilo Duran gets moved out wide in order to make room for him.

Duran is without a doubt Celtic's biggest threat up top right now. He needs to be playing as the number 9 on a consistent basis. But it looks like O'Neill is eager to get the best out of Hogh.

Perhaps one can understand the desire to do that, having sanctioned a club-record move for him in the summer. It just has not worked out though. Hogh has only scored in one game for Celtic so far.
