Chris Sutton believes that Martin O'Neill could drop a key Celtic player against the Rangers.
Just like that, the first Glasgow Derby of the season is now only a sleep away. And coming into this game, both Celtic and the Rangers have reasons to be worried.
Celtic have made a perfect start to the season when it comes to domestic competitions. But one cannot overlook what happened when they took on LASK in the second leg of the Champions League qualifier play-off.
A 5-1 defeat to get knocked out of the qualifying rounds again in what will surely go down as one of the worst results in the club's history.
The game against the Rangers, away at Ibrox in the quarter-final of the League Cup, will be a good way to put that result behind them once and for all and take a fresh start when they open their Europa League campaign against Ferencvaros a few days later.
On the other hand, if Celtic lose, it will raise further questions about the real quality of this team and where they stand.
Celtic tipped to drop key player vs Rangers
Martin O'Neill has some tough decisions to make this weekend for when Celtic face the Rangers. And Chris Sutton believes he could drop a big-name player.
The player we are talking about is none other than Kasper Hogh, the striker who became Celtic's most expensive signing ever not too long ago.
Sutton, who knows a thing or two about leading the line for Celtic, said (via Daily Record): "The back four and midfield are pretty set, while the big questions for him going to Ibrox are in the forward areas – who plays up front and who plays out left?
"And I can see O’Neill leaving Celtic's record signing Kasper Hogh on the bench with Camilo Duran getting the nod.
"I like Hogh but Duran’s form has made him undroppable and you get the best out of him through the middle."
But after his first few weeks at Celtic Park, there are now serious doubts about whether Hogh can deliver the goods for the Hoops in the long run.
Hogh has endured a tough start to life at Celtic
Hogh did score a hattrick against Kilmarnock. But he has not been able to find the back of the net in any of the other matches he has played for Celtic.
Hogh has earned some praise for his hold-up play and linking with those around him. But overall, when Celtic spent a record fee to sign him, they would have been hoping for a lot more than those attributes. If you want to be a starting striker at Parkhead, you need to score goals.
On the other hand, Camilo Duran has been in supreme form since the pre-season. So, it is easy to understand why many might feel that he should be the one leading the line against the Rangers.
So, to be very honest, it would not exactly come as a surprise if Duran does start through the middle against the Rangers while Hogh finds himself on the bench.̄
