A defender Martin O'Neill wants is reported to be keen on joining Celtic this summer.

Celtic have been pretty active in the transfer market over the past week or so. They have completed the signings of Haissem Hassan and Mika Baur in quick succession. We have rarely seen that happen at Parkhead in recent times, so the management deserve credit.

Celtic fans will be hoping for more signings in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window. There are quite a few positions still in need of strengthening.

One of them is left-back. For some reason, Celtic did not sign Marcelo Saracchi on a permanent basis, despite his impressive loan spell. That means that they still need to bring in a quality backup option for Kieran Tierney, whose injury history is pretty well known.

Left-back keen on joining Celtic

According to a recent report from Anthony Joseph, Landon Emenalo is believed to be keen on the move to Celtic. But the left-back does have options elsewhere where he would likely be a regular starter.

On the other hand, the admiration seems to be mutual. According to Josh McCafferty, Martin O’Neill wants to sign Emenalo but the Chelsea left-back has a slight injury.

Of course, at Celtic, Emanelo is not going to be a regular starter. At best, he is going to be the understudy for Tierney.

Obviously, that can help him learn a lot. Also, with Tierney's injury history, there is a decent chance that he will get game time most weeks.

Celtic chance could be perfect for Emenalo

Saracchi played 27 times for Celtic last season, and even then, he was out injured for quite some time. So, Emenalo can expect decent playing time, even if not a starting spot.

Also, let us not overlook the fact that Emenalo has not played a single game of competitive football in his career. It is important that he is eased into this level.

So, the role of a cover option for Tierney could be perfect for him. He could learn a lot from an elite left-back while also playing a good bit of football himself.

For Celtic, this would obviously be a short-term move. There is little to no chance that Chelsea would entertain the idea of an option or obligation clause. This is just going to be a place for him to develop at the senior level before heading back to England.
