The SPFL have made a blockbuster announcement involving Celtic.

Celtic are enjoying a few productive weeks both on and off the pitch. Their results have improved drastically this season.

A 5-1 win over Kilmarnock was followed this week by a 4-0 victory over Dundee United. One could argue that the hosts were unlucky to score. But at the end of the day, the Celtic fans have a lot to be happy about after seeing their team rely on narrow one-goal wins and moments of individual brilliance throughout the 25/26 season.

Off the pitch, Celtic have made some solid additions lately as well. Haissem Hassan has been brought in from Real Oviedo while Mika Baur has arrived from SC Paderborn.

Yes, Arne Engels has left for West Ham United. But it looks like Celtic are looking to replace him by making a big-money signing of their own.

SPFL make Celtic announcement

Amid all this, the SPFL have announced that the draw for the last 8 round of the Scottish League Cup has been made. Rangers set to host Celtic at Ibrox.

The three other quarter-finals are Stenhousemuir v Heart of Midlothian, Ross County v Hibernian and Kilmarnock v Aberdeen. The ties are due to be played on the weekend of September 12/13.

So, it goes without saying that the Glasgow Derby is going to be the blockbuster tie of the round.

Based on form, one certainly has to give the early advantage to Celtic. But with the game still several weeks away, a lot can change between now and then.

Rangers found some form this weekend

It is safe to say that the Rangers have endured a very difficult start to their campaign. They did find some form this weekend with their 5-1 win over St Mirren.

With St Mirren having won both their league games so far, they were expected to give the Rangers a tough time in the League Cup fixture.

Instead, it turned out to be a one-sided contest. One has to wonder whether this is the start of a good run of form for the Rangers or another false dawn.

Obviously, Celtic cannot afford to waste any time thinking about what is going on at Ibrox. They have a lot on their plate.

Firstly, the focus has to be on their next game, which is the first leg of the Champions League play-off tie against LASK.

Celtic have struggled to navigate their way through the Champions League qualification phase for years now. Let's see if they can break that chain this time around and booked their spot in the competition.
