Celtic fans do not like Martin O'Neill's selection decision in the League Cup game against Dundee United.
Celtic are riding a wave of positivity at the moment. It started with the 5-1 away win over Kilmarnock at the weekend.
It was the first time in a while that Celtic won that convincingly. Even during their winning streak towards the end of last season, all of the victories had been narrow and hard-fought ones.
The hattrick from new signing Kasper Hogh was another reason to be delighted. And the result was followed up by the double signing of Haissem Hassan and Mika Baur, while Arne Engels closes in on a move to West Ham United.
It is undeniable that the Rangers' results at the start of the Derek McInnes era have contributed to this overall positivity amongst the Celtic fanbase as well. The Ibrox side have already dropped five points behind in the Premiership and failed to qualify for the Europa League.
Amid all, Celtic cannot afford the task at hand. Today, it is an away League Cup fixture against Dundee United at Tannadice Park.
Celtic fans do not agree with Martin O'Neill's decision
Celtic have already announced their starting XI for the game. And not every decision has gone down well with the supporters.
The one in particular focus was the choice to play Liam Scales at left-back, while keeping Kieran Tierney on the bench.
One fan wrote: "Scales at left back, why are we doing this to ourselves?"
Some others chose the sarcastic route, as one wrote: "No need to sign a backup left-back, lads…. Mr Versatile Liam Scales is here."
Well, this all goes back to the decision not to bring back Marcelo Saracchi. The Uruguayan had enjoyed an excellent loan spell from Boca Juniors and was available for a very modest transfer fee this summer.
Yet, for some reason, Celtic chose not to make a move for Saracchi. It remains to be seen how they fill that area now.
Recent reports are suggesting that they are closing in on the signing of Landon Emenalo on loan from Chelsea.
The 18-year-old is a highly-regarded talent for sure and has impressed for Chelsea in pre-season. That being said, he has never played a senior game of football. So, signing him as the backup to Tierney, who has a long history of injury problems. will come with its fair share of risk, that is for certain.
Celtic cannot afford to take Dundee United lightly
Dundee United have already gotten a result against one of the Glasgow giants this season. They managed a draw against the Rangers in the opening league fixture.
So, that might give them confidence that they can get something against Celtic as well, especially at home in a one-off knockout game. Anything can happen for sure.
Celtic have not put out their strongest XI on the day. But hopefully, the players will be able to get the job done.
