An early favourite has emerged to replace Martin O'Neill at Celtic if the manager chooses to depart.

How long will Martin O'Neill remain the manager of Celtic Football Club? That is a serious question right now as the Hoops continue to struggle for results.

They have won only three of their last ten games across all competitions. It is hard to remember the last time they were in this kind of situation.

Unfortunately, it does not feel like it is going to get any better either, as Celtic's next opposition are Turkish side Besiktas. From what we have seen over the past few months, even at home, the Hoops will be the underdogs going into that matchup.

They will then take on Kilmarnock at home in a league game before heading out for the November international break. Could that be an opportunity to make a change if things do not improve by then? If so, who could replace O'Neill as manager?

Early favourite to replace Martin O'Neill as Celtic manager

Most Celtic fans will be hoping to see a high-profile appointment if O'Neill leaves. But it is much more likely that the club will try to bring in an interim manager in such circumstances before trying to find a long-term solution, if or when one becomes available in the future, most probably next summer.

It has been suggested that Neil Lennon has emerged as the early favourite to replace O'Neill if he decides to leave the Celtic job.

Of course, at this point, it is just mere speculation and should be treated as such. That being said, it would not come as a surprise if that ended up being the solution the club look towards in case of an O'Neill exit.

Obviously, after how things ended for Lennon in his second time in charge, it is almost unthinkable that he would be handed the job again. Yet, on paper, that feels like the kind of move this board would be content with making.

Is Neil Lennon capable of turning things around for Celtic?

While Lennon has enjoyed plenty of success over his two spells as Celtic manager, it goes without saying that a large section of the fanbase would not be pleased to see him handed the job.

The general idea is that the club should be aiming higher. And there are doubts about whether bringing in Lennon would even improve the situation.

For now, this is all a hypothetical situation though. O'Neill remains in charge and will be looking to turn things around for Celtic when they welcome Besiktas to Parkhead next.
