The veteran manager has been named a 'leading candidate' to land the Celtic job when Martin O'Neill departs.
Celtic will need to bring in a new manager in the near future. Ideally, it would be next summer, when Martin O'Neill is expected to step down from his post at the end of his current deal. A change earlier than that would mean that the club have been forced into a decision.
Right now, that is not outside the realm of possibility. Celtic have struggled to produce results and the performances have not been anything to write home about either. One could argue that they look worse than even last season.
The club do need some freshness. And perhaps there is a recognition that continuing with O'Neill was not the right decision for anybody involved.
O'Neill had gotten his fairytale ending while Celtic had the chance to start afresh in the summer. Now, it clearly is not working as well as hoped but parting ways would bring up new problems.
When Celtic do end up eventually changing managers, they need to bring in someone who is experienced enough to deal with the pressure of the Parkhead job, yet still continues to prove himself in the modern game. And the perfect solution might just be out there for free.
David Moyes continues to be linked to Celtic job
David Moyes' current deal with Everton is believed to run out next summer. Could a return to Celtic, a club he broke into senior football for, be on the cards for the Scotsman?
According to Football Insider, Moyes continues to be tipped for a move to Celtic. His situation at Everton has put the club's hierarchy on high alert and the Scottish manager remains a leading candidate for the Parkhead job.
Now, it remains to be seen if Moyes does indeed end up leaving Everton in the summer or not. The last club that chose to part ways with him by choice ended up getting relegated soon afterwards.
Would Moyes want to leave Everton and the Premier League?
Moyes is a legend at Everton. And he has brought some stability to the Toffees after the Merseyside club spent quite a few years barely avoiding relegation.
Even if he left Everton, would he want to leave the Premier League for Celtic? Perhaps if that is on his bucket list. It could also prove to be a natural step in eventually getting the Scotland national team job a few years down the line.
Moyes' recent success in Europe might be attractive to Celtic as well. He won the Conference League with West Ham United, though the Hoops will not want to compete at that level in Europe.
