Martin O'Neill has confirmed that the Celtic player will miss the upcoming game against Falkirk this weekend.
Having dropped points once again in their most recent game, against Dundee United, the pressure is on Celtic to win this weekend when they take on Falkirk.
Do not expect Falkirk to be a pushover by any means. They are having a decent campaign and sit at 6th in the league table.
Of course, Celtic have had their fair share of problems when trying to deal with even mid-table teams in recent weeks. So, nobody should be taking any game lightly at this point in time, especially with the league title race so tight.
The only consolation for Celtic in midweek was the fact that the Rangers drew as well. So, the gap between the two Glasgow giants remained at four points. But considering how shaky the Hoops look at the moment, that might prove to be unsustainable if things do not improve moving forward.
Celtic player won't feature against Falkirk
Celtic have a ton of fitness issues right now as well. Among them is someone who has not even played a minute of football for the club so far.
One of the players we have not even seen in action in Celtic colours so far is Joel van den Berg, signed in the summer but yet to make his debut for the Hoops.
Unfortunately, that run is not going to end against Falkirk as Martin O'Neill has already ruled him out. As reported by The Herald, the manager said: "No, he's just come in.
"We'll have a look, he did really well today in the training, but we didn't train on the plastic surface, which we will do tomorrow (Saturday), and he is just back.
"But I think he's definitely got a bit of potential."
Did Celtic make the right decision by signing Joel van den Berg?
It came as a surprise to pretty much everybody when Celtic signed Van den Berg late in the summer transfer window. There had been no rumours about the club having an interest in the player until things had already advanced regarding a deal.
Having seen the likes of Arne Engels and Reo Hatate leave in the summer, two starting-level players for Celtic, the expectation was that players of equal quality would be brought in to replace them. At least that should have been the aim.
The failure to make the Champions League might have poured cold water over those ambitions though.
Now, the only hope is that Van den Berg proves to be a solid signing in the future. But as of this moment, he is not even in the first-team picture and has not made his debut yet.
Obviously, it is somewhat unclear how long he has been injured since joining the club in the summer. But it does look like a return to fitness is not far away.
