The player's agent has confirmed that Celtic have opened talks over a summer signing in recent days.
Fans would like to see Celtic show some urgency and efficiency in this summer transfer window. Those are two things that seemed to be missing last year. As a result, the club failed to complete the deals that they needed in time and subsequently failed to qualify for the Champions League.
They cannot repeat those same mistakes this summer as well. It looks like they have already missed out on the signing of Elias Filet for that reason. On the other hand, it looks like talks are underway over a defender.
There has been all this talk about signing a centre-back in recent days. But Celtic cannot afford to overlook their options on the flanks.
Celtic always need to keep a quality backup option around for Kieran Tierney. Considering the left-back's injury history, that is simply the safer route to take.
They had that last season in the form of Marcelo Saracchi. Some fans have been left surprised that he has not been signed on a permanent basis yet, after the fantastic loan stint from Boca Juniors.
Celtic might be moving in the right direction in that respect. Although, nothing is set in stone yet.
According to a report from CeltsAreHere, Saracchi's agent, Marcelo Tejera, has confirmed that he has spoken with Michael Nicholson in recent days.
However, there are some problematic areas as well. It is claimed that there has been frustration over the pace of communication. At times, responses are understood to have taken as long as two weeks. That is despite Celtic having the financial details required to make it happen.
Now, it remains to be seen if Celtic do get his deal over the line or end up losing out once again by allowing things to drag on and not making the right decisions in time. It is a story we have seen repeated time and again.
To be very honest, it feels like almost a no-brainer to go out and sign someone like Saracchi.
The Uruguayan left-back proved himself in Celtic colours last season. Whenever given a run out in the park, he has solid. And some fans even wanted to see him being promoted to starter ahead of Tierney.

A player of that quality is available for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £2 million. It could be even lower, as Boca Juniors are keen to get something done soon.
Yet, for some reason, Celtic are not completely over this deal. Why would that have allowed this to drag on for so long? It just does not make any sense.
