The journalist has confirmed the chances of Robbie Keane getting the Celtic job in the future.
The Celtic managerial situation is still up in the air, whether you like it or not. Going into the international break, the club had lost three games on the trot. Naturally, there were doubts around the future of Martin O'Neill.
The club have shown no real appetite when it comes to sacking O'Neill. But will the Northern Irishman himself want to continue if things do not improve?
He might prefer to protect his legacy rather than allow such a situation to drag on. At the same time, he is 74 years of age and has faced some health-related issues in recent times.
So, although it looks like O'Neill will remain the Celtic manager for the time being, there is no guarantee that he will see out the entire campaign. If he does decide to leave, who will be the one to replace him?
Robbie Keane to Celtic situation cleared up
Robbie Keane is someone who Celtic have been linked with on more than one occasion in the past, when it comes to the club's managerial post.
In fact, for a little while, it had looked like Keane was the favourite to get the Celtic job before O'Neill was confirmed as the permanent manager this summer. If the latter leaves, could the opportunity arise again?
Keane has shown promise as a manager so far in his career. And perhaps even more importantly for Celtic, he is without a club at the moment.
The fans have not seemed particularly keen on the idea of the club bringing in Keane as the manager though, largely owing to his previous job at Maccabi.
That might have derailed any possibility of a move in the future. Alan Nixon said on X (via Celtic Shorts), when asked whether Keane had turned the club down: “I wouldn’t put it like that, but it does seem he’s off the list now. Maybe he thinks something better is coming.”
So, it looks like a move for Keane might no longer be on the table, for one reason or another. Nixon further stated: “It was met with some protest, and O’Neill deciding to stay got them out of a hole at the time.”
Could Keane really get Celtic job?
At this point in time, it is hard to imagine Keane getting the Celtic job. If he does, he would have to win the fans over before anything else.
Keane himself might feel that he might have more lucrative opportunities on the horizon. Let us not forget that he was linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job not too long ago.
Right now, Tottenham Hotspur are struggling once again. And it would not come as a surprise if Roberto De Zerbi is shown the exit door at some point in the not-too-distant future.
