UEFA have made an official announcement regarding the upcoming game involving Benfica and Celtic.
Celtic returned to winning ways with their 2-0 victory over Motherwell at the weekend. That result ended a three-game losing run for the Hoops, something that needed ending as soon as possible.
To be fair, Motherwell have been a team out of form this season. So, it was probably a good bounce-back game if you are Celtic.
That being said, things are about to get tougher for Martin O'Neill's side again. Next up is the second game of their Europa League campaign, after they lost the opener convincingly against Ferencvaros at Celtic Park.
This time around, Celtic will be the ones on the road. They will travel away to Portugal to take on Benfica.
It is always tough to get a result against Benfica in their own backyard. That is especially true for a Celtic team that looks completely out of form at the moment.
UEFA make Benfica vs Celtic match announcement
UEFA have announced the names of the officials who will be in charge of the game between Celtic and Benfica.
Nikola Dabanović will be the referee on the night. He will be assisted by Srđan Jovanović and Vladan Todorović.
Pol van Boekel will be the one on VAR duty and he will be assisted by Fedayi San. Miloš Savović has been named the fourth official.
Both sets of fans should be hoping for a game that is called right down the middle with no controversial decisions that end up having an impact on the result on the night. May the best team win!
Celtic need to get a result against Benfica
This promises to be a tough game for a Celtic team that has struggled for form and consistency so far this season.
They had come out of the blocks looking very good but never seemed to have recovered their confidence following that defeat at the hands of LASK away in Austria to get knocked out of the Champions League qualification phase.
If they can get a result against Benfica, it would go a long way in taking care of that issue and restoring that confidence. Also, having lost to Ferencvaros, Celtic need to get some points on the board if they want to make it past the group phase.
On the other hand, if they are at the end of a heavy defeat against Benfica, it would raise further questions about O'Neill's continuity as manager. So, a lot more could be riding on the result of this game than just the three points.
