There is some more good news for Celtic in the race to sign the highly-rated player, who enjoyed a standout World Cup.
So far, it has been an interesting summer transfer window for Celtic. And in some ways, it has been quite different from past ones.
In the past, we have seen the club sign a number of players, largely in hopes that a few of the additions would work out while most never do.
This time around, though, their activity seems to have been a bit more focused. The two signings they have made both have Champions League success on their resumes.
Now, they are being linked with someone who had a standout World Cup campaign this time around. And there have been some positive noises on the matter.
Celtic handed good news in winger chase
It does look like the player himself is keen on pushing for a move, or at least clarifying his situation, based on the most recent updates on his situation.
According to journalist Fuad Alakbarov, Hassan will hold decisive talks with Real Oviedo in the coming hours as uncertainty over his future continues.
Celtic, Lens and an unnamed Saudi Arabian club are all keeping close tabs on the situation, while Liverpool's interest has faded.
Oviedo's priority remains a full €12m release clause payment, but the Spanish club are prepared to discuss a structured offer of an initial fee plus performance-related add-ons if it aligns with Hassan's wishes.
Should Celtic trigger Hassan's release clause?
Now, there is no doubt that Hassan's displays at the World Cup for Egypt were very impressive. That being said, that might not justify spending €12 million on the winger.
Let us not forget that he had no goals and three assists to his name for Real Oviedo last season, as the team got relegated to La Liga 2 after finishing bottom of the top flight.
On one hand, it is important to recognise that it is not easy for a player like Hassan to showcase his full potential while playing in a team that struggled, and eventually failed, to avoid relegation.
But on the other hand, one cannot rule out the possibility that his World Cup form might have been a purple patch.
So, any bid needs to be a realistic one. And as far as Celtic go, a €12 million transfer fee might be beyond that.
Celtic will need to sign a winger or two in this window though. So, if it is not going to be Hassan, they need to move on to their next target quite quickly.
