Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande has dismissed exit speculation after revealing Derek McInnes wants him to remain at Ibrox.
Mohamed Diomande has played down speculation surrounding his future at Rangers after revealing that Derek McInnes wants him to remain at Ibrox.
The 24-year-old is one of several players whose future has come under scrutiny following the club’s heavy recruitment in the middle of the park this summer.
Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Vanja Dragojevic have all joined the Light Blues, while Nico Raskin has also returned following his involvement at the World Cup.
The increased competition could eventually lead to departures before the transfer window closes.
However, Diomande has made it clear that he is not currently looking for a move away. Speaking after the West Ham friendly, the Ivory Coast international said:
I’m happy here, and I think they’re happy with me. When I speak to the manager, he wants me here.
Diomande still has two years remaining on the contract he signed after initially arriving from FC Nordsjaelland in January 2024.
Despite the uncertainty created by Rangers’ midfield rebuild, the former Right to Dream academy prospect believes he offers qualities that can earn him a place in McInnes’ starting XI.
The midfielder has acknowledged that his performances have not always been consistent at Ibrox.
Likewise, he wants to improve his attacking output by contributing more goals and assists during the new campaign.
For now, Diomande intends to make his case through his work in training rather than become distracted by outside opinions or speculation over his future.
The 24-year-old also believes McInnes’ approach can help Rangers improve after two consecutive trophyless campaigns.
The new manager wants his side to play forward more often, provide better service to the strikers and deliver the ball into dangerous areas with greater regularity.
Diomande featured from the start as Rangers completed their pre-season schedule with a goalless draw against West Ham United on Sunday.
He lined up alongside Devlin and Thelo Aasgaard at Ibrox, with the Australian making his first start since arriving from Hearts.
Devlin has already made an impression on his new teammate through his intensity and work rate.
Diomande believes those qualities are contagious and can help raise standards across the Rangers squad.
However, the Australian’s arrival also adds another direct competitor for minutes ahead of Friday’s Scottish Premiership opener against Dundee United.
McInnes now has several different midfield profiles available, leaving him with a genuine selection decision at Tannadice.
His backing indicates that Diomande remains part of those plans. The challenge for the Ivorian is now to turn that confidence into the consistent performances and final-third output that he admits have previously been missing.
