Rangers have reportedly had an opening bid for PSV winger Couhaib Driouech rejected, but talks over a potential Ibrox move remain active.
Rangers have reportedly had an opening bid for PSV Eindhoven winger Couhaib Driouech rejected as Derek McInnes continues his search for attacking reinforcements.
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf reported on Wednesday that the Light Blues had formally approached PSV, but their first proposal fell below the Eredivisie champions’ valuation.
PSV watcher Rik Elfrink subsequently reported that the offer was in the millions but failed to satisfy the Dutch club.
PSV are believed to want between £6m and £7m, including bonuses, for the 24-year-old. Reports add that negotiations are underway and Driouech is open to moving to Ibrox, where a long-term contract is reportedly waiting.
However, no personal agreement has been reached between the player and Rangers. McInnes did not identify Driouech when addressing Rangers’ transfer activity, but confirmed the club is considering several wide players.
He said “a few reports recently have been accurate” and stressed, "We want to try and be as ambitious as we can.
The manager’s comments arrived on the day Rangers confirmed Daisuke Yokota’s arrival from Hannover 96 on a three-year deal, with an option for another season.
Even after that addition, McInnes seems to want another winger to improve the balance of his attack. Driouech, who is under contract until 2029, joined PSV from Excelsior in 2024.
He has registered 12 goals and 10 assists in 61 appearances for the Eindhoven club and won the Eredivisie in both of his seasons there.
The forward also demonstrated his quality on the European stage last term. Driouech struck three times in the Champions League, including a late double in PSV’s memorable 4-1 victory against Liverpool at Anfield.
The Light Blues previously tried to sign the Moroccan Under-23 international before his move to PSV.
The winger subsequently described Rangers, Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon as “absolutely beautiful clubs”, but explained that PSV offered the development path he wanted at the time.
RB Salzburg and Burnley are also reported to be interested. However, the latest Dutch reporting claims Driouech would prefer a top-flight move and is not interested in Burnley, while no rival bid has been reported.
The rejected offer, therefore, does not end Rangers’ pursuit but establishes the financial gap.
Nevertheless, their next decision is whether Driouech’s output, European experience and potential justify moving closer to PSV’s asking price.
This would be a significant investment, but the winger’s ability to operate from the left would complement Yokota, who is comfortable cutting in from the right.
