Everton and Olympiacos target Sporting CP right-back Georgios Vagiannidis for $11M. Olympiacos faces financial hurdles but has UEFA competition on its side.
Everton has set its sights on Portugal to reinforce its defense, but according to reports, it faces competition from abroad, specifically from Olympiacos.
According to A Bola, the Toffees are interested in signing Sporting CP right-back Georgios Vagiannidis. The cited outlet indicates that an offer of $11 million would be enough to convince the Portuguese club to let go of their player.
That said, Everton is not alone in the race for Vagiannidis, 24. According to the specialized site TransferFeed, Olympiacos is closely following the situation of the Greek full-back, despite the difficulties surrounding a potential deal.
The cited source explains that signing Vagiannidis is complicated for Thrylos not only financially but also because of the player's ambitions, as he does not look unfavorably upon making the jump to a top European league.
Despite this, it is for this latter reason that Olympiacos has a clear advantage over Everton. The Greek club is qualified for UEFA competitions next season and will play Champions League qualifying rounds to try to secure its place in the league phase.
Returning to financial matters, if Sporting clings to the supposed $11 million valuation, then yes, it would be practically impossible for the Greek runners-up to sign Vagiannidis. It would simply be out of budget.

Also, on Monday, To10.gr journalist Nikos Kotsis reported that Olympiacos is advancing on the potential signings of right-backs Triantafyllos Tsapras (Levadiakos) and Pablo Maffeo (RCD Mallorca).
On paper, the most economical option would be Garcia, given that we are talking about a potential loan. But as we already said, it is too early to have certainty about what moves the club's sporting department will make.
It is also important to take into account the UEFA requirements the club must meet regarding the roster. At the moment, Olympiacos needs a club-trained player to fill the four spots, not to mention that Konstantinos Tzolakis has been linked to an exit from the team this summer.
Additionally, Thrylos needs to have four association-trained players, of whom they currently have only Konstantinos Fortounis, who is returning to Piraeus.
