Hull City has received a boost as transfer target Dimitris Giannoulis rejected Coventry City, and Olympiacos withdrew from the race.
Hull City has been boosted as a transfer target after a player rejected signing for Coventry City and, more recently, Olympiacos, according to reports.
On Wednesday, the newly promoted Premier League club was again linked to Augsburg left-back Dimitris Giannoulis by the English outlet Hull Live.
As we already reported at Roundtable, Giannoulis, 31, has attracted interest from multiple clubs ahead of next season, including Greek sides Olympiacos, PAOK, and AEK Athens, as well as Coventry, a newly promoted team to the first tier of English soccer.
However, the player would prefer to go to Greece rather than return to the Premier League, where he already played for Norwich City.
The detail is that Giannoulis only rejected Coventry and has never said no to Hull City, according to reports from Greece. But the Yorkshire side has received an additional boost, as the one that until recently seemed the favorite to sign him has decided to withdraw from the race.
According to TransferFeed, Olympiacos is no longer actively pursuing the left-back, as the player has not given a clear response to the Red and Whites.
"Olympiacos had not received an affirmative response from Giannoulis, despite pressuring him, and the player did not provide a negative one either, asking for more time," the cited outlet began explaining.
They added, "Olympiacos withdrew its interest in Giannoulis, informing both the player and Augsburg that they would not continue with the lengthy process."
Therefore, Hull City now has the opportunity to convince the player with its project of returning to England.
But it must be stressed again: according to what we know, Giannoulis is looking to return to Greece. After Olympiacos withdrew from the race, it seems logical that PAOK, above all, but also AEK Athens, have the final say before the player finally decides to return to the country where he already played between 2019 and 2024.
The Greek full-back made a total of 103 appearances with Norwich City during that period. He subsequently signed for Bundesliga side Augsburg, where he made 63 appearances and scored 3 goals.
Olympiacos still has to resolve the future of its current left-backs, Francisco Ortega and Bruno Onyemaechi. The Argentine has aroused the interest of some clubs abroad, including Italian side Udinese.
As for the Nigerian, although there has been speculation about his future, the always-reliable colleagues at Thrylos 7 International have revealed that their sources have no information on a potential departure.
